comrades!

2018 2500 6800 miles

hydraulic clutch " unit " failed

national backorder

been in shop for 2 weeks - soonest - to get back is next month

no offer on a loaner vehicle

no offer on splitting a rental vehicle

etc.

what is rams responsibility, if any???

i e mailed ram care with my vin and situation, and never heard back.

it stinks - trying to run a construction company ( single person - me ) with NO TRUCK.

i wish subaru made a truck - 1991 subaru 380,000 miles - 1994 subaru 284,000 miles.

cheers comrades!

That's the trouble with oem dealers, they can't/wont think outside the box. If it were mine, I would yard that sucker out, compare it to '17 part and if looked the same, install it. If I go online to Mopar parts, I can find most anything for '17 and down, but only accessories for the '18, it is like parts are not in the system yet.

Did your reservoir empty? Isn't it the same reservoir for the clutch and brakes?

newsa - the reservoir did empty. its separate from the brakes. near the brakes, though. the clutch master and slave cylinder are a non servicable " unit " which is brilliant design. ( sarcasm ). also, the entire thing looks like its all plastic. which is also strange to me....cheers.

Last week you were diagnosing clutch failure over the Internet without any info other than “ clutch failure” and you don’t even know the clutch has its own reservoir? And some people wonder why Internet forums get a bad name.

Wow, that is chinsy. No wonder there is a self adjusting mechanism. The reservoir only holds a few ounces.

yes sir. the fact that it is so small, the fluid that was in the reservoir never even made it to the driveway to drip. if it were bigger, in my opinion, it would have left drips on the driveway...and i could have caught it in time. instead, the few ounces dripped down the inner fender and down the underside of the truck. never hit the ground.

You need to ask about a loaner "truck" while you wait. You can also call FCA directly (number is in the back of the owner's manual) and ask them to get involved. Recall a dealer is independent of FCA. Some dealers may have trouble getting parts for a number of reasons like not paying their bills. You may have to go elsewhere, again, with FCA involved.

Sure, look into Lemon Law. It can be a long process. But at the end of they day I am sure you just need a truck to get the job done. I am sure FCA doesn't want a 5 figure buyback over a $200 part...

comrade - i did ask about a loaner from dealer - nope.......even tried to rent one from local rental company. they were out of cars/trucks for 10 days - 2 weeks. bummer. also, got similar info on part from another dealer ( as far as the backorder )

believe it or not, the plastic hydraulic slave and master cylinder with tube connecting them is over 350 bucks....aftermarket is even more....

cheers!

I have never heard of slave and master cylinder connected together with a tube and sold as a unit. That is interesting. I didn't realize.that's what you meant as non serviceable.

yes sir - all one unit from factory, filled with fluid etc, from what i read in the book. i really wish it had a bleeder screw, so i could have fixed it in my driveway....

They had the same crappy system on my 1985 ford diesel what a pile of crap. Can't believe they are still doing it the same way. Maybe the engineer that designed it went to work for Chrysler

That's the industrial standard today. don't blame Chrysler for it. every European stick shift is built that way since many many years and usually the sealed system works flawlessly a cars life long.
here it failed because of a production issue, that can happen it's all man made.

Having owned two trucks with the G56 transmission I never had an Issue with the Clutch hydro system. It just worked.
That said things do break. The MAJOR issue here is 6800 miles and it fails and they do not provide a loaner truck???? The Ink is not dry on the sales contract yet. The Dealer should be going above and beyond to make this right. Granted it's not their fault the part failed but.....

I checked the fluid yesterday. But with no bleeder screw to get air out, I don't even feel comfortable opening it up.

I changed a slave cylinder once on an old Hyundai and used a broom stick between the back of the driver's seat and clutch pedal when bleeding. IIRC, there was an oil spot under and behind the driver's side bumper where the fluid drained out through the slave cylinder.

I guess if this one goes bad, it's off to the dealer. SMH.
