Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Intercoolers

Just wondering if there are any aftermarket intercoolers available for our rigs? Seen them for the Power Stroke but none for the CTD. Anyone running an aftermarket application or know who sells them?

They are still in work and the R&D hasn't been done yet, but when it's done and the results are like they need to be you will see the report.

PDR is having them built(2) for testing, if the results are good then the order will go in for a bunch of them.

EEP and Haisley both have better than stock intercoolers that are pressure tested higher. I just ordered one from eep as my other one has a bad leak in it. I dont know what kind extra performance it has but i needed one and couldnt wait to see how the piers one comes out. I waited a couple months since hearing about it but couldnt wait no longer with some pulls coming up. I did find that dura-lite had one for 450 which is a good price but would not handle my boost.

What about useing a Ford intercooler on a 12 v or someother stock one already out there..... I think that the ford intercooler is bigger. I know that I saw someone with a first gen using a 00 ford intercooler dont know if it helped him or not.



What do you think would be the advantages of replacing the stock on a 12v with a newer ford intercooler would be?



Anyone done this?

Thats a good question as well. Don't know if I want that fix or repair daily crap on my rig though.

24v Intercooler

I got my 24v intercooler out of a 2000 24v ctd, i stripped the paint off of it before installing it, and it works great. The 24v intercooler is 1-1/2 taller than the 12v intercooler. My cruising egt's went down 75*. Oo.

For us 12v guys I still think the 24v cooler is a good upgrade unless you are running twins with big boost then a custom cooler may be the way to go. Depending on your fueling it is good for a few HP and cooler EGT's. However, I don't think the 24v cooler is worth the $600 new price for one but if you could locate a used on at a reasonable price, typically they sell for $200-$300, I think it is a good mod. JMHO

If his cooler deal will go through I think it will work much better, the tubes are built for allot less restriction, I've seen the cut aways and knew they would be much better and they are high pressure tested.

No doubt the custom cooler will be better. I would imagine it will be a little spendy as compared to a used 24v cooler



I was just saying for a moderate HP 12v guy who is looking for a little help and does not desire to spend a ton of money (possibly), a used 24v cooler may be a good option.



Of course the 24v guys don't have a choice

A 3G intercooler is huge compared to a 2g. Width is about the same but is quite a bit taller. I tried to use one in my conversion but it would not fit down between the frame rails. Now its in the classifieds...
