Okay, so I've finally got the mega cab that I've always wanted. The exterior is the inferno red and is beautiful. JUST what I wanted. The interior is the light gray (slate?). Its not bad. Just prefer the tan interior. Problem is, the tan mega cabs are hard to come by. What options do I have to change the interior color to tan. I know I can get the replacement carpet, and the seats aren't too hard. Wanting to do some leather katzkin covers there. Biggest hurdle will be the dash, steering wheel, and the door panels. I plan on having this truck at least the next ten years. My 99 is coming up on its ten year mark with me.

Idea 1: I've had a suggestion to use the chrysler tan interior paint, but am concerned it wont hold up over the next several years.

Idea2: Wrecking yard? Haven't seen a lot of mega-cabs in wrecking yards around here though.

Idea 3: Even trade. If I happened to know someone who wanted the gray and had tan... that would be perfect. Unfortunately I dont know anyone currently who would want to do that.

Thoughts, ideas??

The only thing that would worry me is that taking all that apart and changing it that something is going to rattle and drive me nuts.

I would echo what Brian says - "swapping" a dash would actually be a huge pain. Not difficult, just time consuming and tricky. Everything would have to come out.

If it were me, I'd go with the paint. [Technically, that's a lie - if it were me, I'd live with the gray]. If the paint wears, it can be touched up later.

Painting was my first thought as well. But on second thought, I know Im going to have this truck for a LONG time, so I want to do everything right and make it look factory and not have to worry about chipping paint and retouching. My 99 has almost 260k miles on it and i will have had it ten years come January. Over the last ten years, I've made it mine. On the mega cab... I got a good deal on the truck. Now over the next few years, I can make it mine too. Doing what additions and modifications to it I like. I think I will be in search of someone with a tan interior who would swap for gray. I'd even throw in some cash for their trouble, AND do all the work.

I would buy paint from your local auto paint store. Not house Paint. Local body shops should be able to tell you a good one. They repaint a lot of dashs, doorpanels, on cars to factory color wen they can not find a match. The bodyshops use a ahesionpromoter and paint made for plastic. I would live with gray. Please do not use spray paint, it is not made for large panels. The paint should come in quarts or gallons.
