A friend of mine has a 92 3/4 ton 4x4 that he wants to sell me. It needs quite a bit of work. It has 204000 miles on it. I know it will need a new injection pump, can these be rebuilt, how much are they, I changed mine on an 01 once so I think I can do it myself. It also need a new transmission, it has an automatic and will only grab 1st and 2nd gear. The four wheel drive works good. It also has a slight bit of blowby, when I took the oilfill cap off while it was running there was a slight bit of white smoke comming out. He wants$2000 for it, I bet I can talk him down a bit though. Is that a good price, or not worth it considering the work that needs to be done?

PS sorry this was so long, any advice is appreciated

Even with a few problems, that sounds pretty fair to me. If the rest of the truck is in good or better condition, the parts will bring a lot more than the asking price. If the interior is trashed and the body is hammered, I would say pass. Like all mechanical things, a little care goes a long ways... :) Glen

thanks for the replys, the body is in great shape, had a new paintjob 4 years ago, should there be any blow by on a cummins with 200000 miles?

All three of mine have a little, all three are over 200,000. We are not talking any forceful blowby, just a little white vapor. None of them will use over two quarts of oil in 5000 miles. All three fire right up, even down to 10 below. I think a little is normal, it should not come out with any force or in puffs though. . Glen

I agree with what the others said. The transmission needs rebuilt- be sure to get it done by a reputable shop that HONORS ITS WARRANTIES!!! Otherwise, you'll be in the same boat you are in now.

Same for the injector pump. I know a few guys who have done good work for me in the past. One is TDR member dzlpwr (or something like that; his name is Bryan Banghart); other is Northeast Diesel Service in Jackson MO.
