Take a couple of rear leafs out. Count the leafs in a 2500
The newer 2500's have spring rear suspensions. The 2013 2500's have 3 leafs. Whereas the 3500's i think have 4 leafs. So removing a leaf will likely help the rear suspension be more compliant. However, the new frame..... Since it is built for coil springs...... May not have the ability to install leaf sprimgs????

I need to edit what i said above because i realize they are considering purchasing a 3500 SRW and making the ride more compliant.

I wonder if a set of 2012 or 2013 leaf springs purchased from a used part supplier or junk yard will even fit a 2018 or 2019 3500? The frame was changed in 2013 for the 3500 and 2014nfor the 2500.

Edit again: but yes, it seems, you could remove a leaf from a SRW 3500 and make it ride more like a 2500????

Any change like that including buying used parts would likely affect part of your new truck warranty

You want a 3500 SRW to ride better empty, lower the rear tires to 40 psi. Install Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks. Install Sulastic spring shackles.

Yesterday I inflated my rears from 40 to 60 to go tow the little bumper pull trailer home to de-winterize it. The ride was noticeably more harsh at just 60 psi. 80 psi will knock teeth loose.

40 PSI provides 2270 lbs per tire, or 4540 capacity on an axle that weighs less than 3500 empty.

Just get the optional auto leveling rear air suspension. No fuss. Believe it was only 1200 bucks. Ride is unbelievable empty or loaded. No screwing with springs and all that. Mess with the springs there goes your weight ratings and bring on sagging rear.

YUP!!! A guy I met recently has a 3500 DRW RAM he rode with me and the first thing he said was "your truck looks lower than mine" then when we headed down the road he said "it rides much better". Part of it may be rear tire pressure.

The net cost of the Factory Rear Air Ride was $1,356, WELL worth it!

The truck sets nearly level solo and even at 9,750# RAW.

For confirmation look no further than MY19 SRW gear ratios.

I looked but can not find anything in writing regarding 2019 3500 specs that talks about gear ratios. Can you post a link to the info you have?

This is the chart the "I" care about.

Looks like 3500 SRW trucks will have ONE gear choice, 3.73.

Looks like DRW's will have two, 3.73 and 4.10. Looks like I will be getting 4.10's again.

Small clarification on the 2020 GM/Allison 10-speed automatic for the new Silverado/Sierra HD pickups. It's built in-house by GM and carries a GM model number (10L1000), but Allison consulted on the engineering, thus they agreed to their name being used since they did contribute to the design.

Looks like the confirmation of the above axle ratios for the 2019 MY confirms my suspicion....RAM listened to all of the complaints regarding the crappy “3.42 only” axle ratio of the SRW trucks and did the right thing.....they axed them.

And all this time only a minuscule few continue to believe that 3.42’s rule and 3.73’s were “compromise” gears. :D

RIP, 3.42 ratio. It’s been way overdue. :D

If buying a 2020 I would have put my money where my mouth is and bought 3.42's even tho I tow 35k combined.

No, 13+ 3500 leafs are completely different then the 03-13 leafs but there are aftermarket leaf springs avaialbe for better ride. They only have 3 leafs plus the overload, I would not remove any leafs out of that pack or axle wrap would be terrible.

A 2500 will ride and handle pretty similar to a 3500 but the 3500 will handle weight better as the springs are further outboard then the coils on the 2500s.

and then, you would be disappointed after towing with your 4.10's and hopefully you'd fully understand what low gears can do.

Nope, I towed 65k at 29k combined with 3.42’s. ONLY NEGATIVE was hill starts. That is a non issue with 3.42’s and AISIN. I know a guy that owns a RV even heavier than mine at 34k combined with a 2013 RAM DRW short box crew. He has the AISIN and 3.42’s. He said ZERO issues with hill starts.

He loves his combo. Full time RVer traveling the country since 2013.
