Just a heads up on the 4x4/regen issue.I see more trucks with full/highly loaded dpfs after 4 wheeling than any other driving condition. The 13 and newer trucks also have an engine run hour parameter written into the regen software

Thank you for sharing this observation. It does make sense that if someone is 4x4ing through mud/water, the mud/water that is tossed up on the exhaust system will cool the entire exhaust system. Including the DPF. I chose to 4x4 on a dry dusty access road in this particular situation. But it may still not have helped.

Yes, that might be so.

Low RPM operation would reduce the turbo boost. This supports your assertion.

However, my experience with low RPM operation in non turbo engines would be that you will have hotter exhaust gases because there could still be some burning fuel being carried tbrough the exhaust. Sort of like the active regen?

Would be interesting to compare the DPF soot levels of an automatic transmission mudder to that of a manual transmission where the operator has complete control of RPM at all times. I ran it up to 2000 RPM'S in 4th gear. And did quite a bit of full pedal acceleration. In third and 4th gear. Kicked up alot of dust. I've ordered a new air filter.

I decided to save a coupla hundred dollars and get a bafx34t5 and an app for my phone.

This is a less expensive way to get EGT's (and other data. I set it up today. Total cost is 1/10th the cost of the CTS2 Edge Insight. Used to be that the PIDs weren't available for the Cummins. But, it works with the Torque Pro App and the app plugins.

Joseph Donnelly, I just came back to the Cummins from the Eco Diesel and I had my Edge CTS 2 reprogramed for the cummins could you message me what parameters you recommend. I also had some gassers in betwen my old Rams and these electronically controlled beasts. *
I use the Edge Insight to monitor ten parameters, including EGT1. Also, it seems the computer knows the air intake temp and uses it to defuel slightly as needed so egt's won't get too high. I discussed both in my column of the magazine.
