Did anyone notice when they installed a mechanical FP gauge that there was noise being transmitted through the line from the lift pump?

I installed my Isspro this weekend and noticed that extra sound coming from what seems like the SS braided line.

How and where did you hook it up? Did you use a snuuber? You will need to address this or the vibration will kill the gauge in short order.

Glenn

Did you use any type of snubber in your setup? If not, then I would try installing one. Mechanical gauges, including boost gauges can transmit noise into the cab without one.

I use a little 1/8npt needle valve and open it just a tad on my 02. Serves as a snubber and I could quickly turn it off if needed...

Here's a pic of my hook-up with a needle valve.

Turn the valve all the way off, then with some one watching the guage, turn on a little at a time until it reads correctly.

I got this tip from Illflem.

Works like a champ, no more buzzing. :D

So I need to close my valve to the point to where it just reads the pressure.

The noise I'm hearing is not like the noise I hear from my boost gauge. The noise follows the engine vibrations.

Yes, you want the gauge to barely start reading. After you have the valve set where you want tighten up the packing nut under the valve handle to prevent the setting from moving.

Hey, Shovelhead, I know it's probably been posted before, but for convenience, could you post the source for your needle valve, with the part number and approximate co$t?

Thanks!

Many hardware stores also have them in the plumbing dept, they're used for icemakers and swamp coolers.

Besides the noise issue, is there any other reason I should install one of these? I'm running the ISSPRO EV and have no noise in the cab...

RO, your 24 valve won't normally pulsate if the lift pump is working correctly but sometimes when they go south it can start pulsating and take a sender or gauge with it. Another plus is if anything ever springs a leak you can shut it down and continue driving. Cheap insurance.

Let me make myself clear.

The gauge is not making a pulsating sound. The issue I'm referring to is that the SS line is transmitting the engine noise into the cab. It is allowing the vibrations of the engine to be transmitted through the cable into the cab hence the sound.
