OOOPS!

The wiretap I was referring to is NOT a Radio Shack item, but a 3M one from an auto parts store - Kragen, Checker or similar should have them...

#ad

What I like about this one is it's compact size, and the fact only *1* wire is tapped, and the connecting wire can then be soldered to the provided blade connector shown, and simply plugged into the tap.

The BEST method of Comp wire attachment, is directly soldering it to the pump wire - but I'm just not contortionist enough to be able to get it done properly...

Comp

Wicked6, When I first installed my comp box I had similular results. If you are not seeing much increase in EGT's your VP-44 is probably the problem. I changed my VP-44, drove the truck for about an hour before I broke my DD 40 Jammer turbo. Your pump can be weak . Thanks Steve B.

I'm hoping it's healthy - but am ready to sell off my wife's cat in case I need a new one. . :D

Update: I just got back in from the garage - VP44 wire insulation was *not* cut by the 10/12 ga T-Tap. . I re-installed using a smaller gauge T-Tap, and connected the gray wire to it. Figures - even the gray wire male spade connection was a major PITA - I had to use some side cutters to FULLY push it into the T-Tap (I was holding it with a set of pliers). . Hopefully, it's the problem. . I will update the thread once I get into the office tomorrow morning. . (I was freezing my b**** off out there in the cold wind... !)

Edit:

Ugh. . Nada. . Still limp - and I'm semi-positive I have a good connection at the VP 44. . (No way to meter it, is there. . ??) Will have to inspect the resistor next. .

:(

I also had a Comp that I was disappointed with. It wasn't any stronger than the EZ I traded for it. When I gave it back, I noticed that one of the wires out of the back of the Comp was so loose, I could easily pull it in and out of the box. I'm sure that was the issue. Its a long shot, but you might want to check.

If that box did not make you go :--) :--) :--) Oo. Oo. Oo.

then there is something wrong, trust me !!!

Approx 130 hp and 300ft. lb on 5x5

let us know when you get it fixed, what you think!

I wonder if that wire was the same 480Ruger is describing, with the resistor in it. . ??

You have to be careful with those T-taps sometimes. A made a connection for my lock-up switch with one and when I slide the male end into the T-connection the male end terminal had bent and slide over top the insulation on the female end. Puzzled for a few hours why it wasn't working and double checking all my connections, I disconnected the male end for a looksy and low and be hold that was the problem, male end had bent and slide over the insulation on the female end. Stupid T-tap :-laf

Tap/or just scrape the insulation on the Comp wire that goes to the VP44. With ignition on and box off a voltmeter should read 12 volts coming from the VP44 if indeed the connection is good. I also, use the BlueChip cover and what I described above is how you know if the wire is pierced with tightening the piercing screw down but not so tight that you break the VP44 circuit board. Has been done and costs you a new VP44 cause at least as far as I know, you can't just replace the circuit board. HTH

... I guess I could also unplug the Edge, find out which pin is the VP44 "tap" wire, meter it & hopefully get 12v if the connection is healthy. . ??? This is good to know... Thanks!!

Another update. . Key on - I have 12v at the VP44 pin in the Edge Comp harness. . Tap connection is good, but fueling has not changed over stock. . EGTs peak at 750, post turbo. .

How likely is it that I have a bad Comp... ?? :(

There was no prong, just a split blade that the wire gets pushed into. . But, point taken - this T-Tap might be too d*mn big. . I hate when that happens. . :D I bought this Comp from a customer of Bob W's who never tapped his VP44, and the factory supplied t-tap was not included. . Anyone know what T-Tap size they use. . ? of more concern - Is this wire a CAN wire, or a simple copper / voltage signal wire. . ?

Happen to have the one that came with my Comp setting here on the desk. 3M 952 18-14 gauge. SNOKING

Thx Snoking - could not find the high dollar 3M 952, bought the el-cheapo brand at NAPA they had. . 18-14 Ga... Worked like a charm, as I have a good connection at the VP44, but. . still no additional fueling. . ! :{

www.positap.com these are the best quick connect taps around. Soldering is better, but like Gary said I had such little room to work with it just wasn't worth the time. I filled the positap with dielectric grease and haven't looked back. I have used these type connectors all over my truck, excellent design and very durable. Frankly pump covers are a waste of money, it looks nice, but does the same thing as this and these connectors don't cost 60 bucks.

Nice. . And at Wally World, no less. .

I think the pump cover is intended for the "warrantied" crowd. . :-laf

Did you use the RED or Black one on the pump wire? SNOKING

As far as wire taps are concerned look at last issue of the TDR mag, not the latest on, the one before, has the Edge drag truck on the cover, there is a ridiculously long write up on wiring and associated products, so if you can get your hands on it, do so, it is a great resource.

LOOK you can have a bad comp - I had one for

a very short time..... HOWEVER their is something very wrong with your setup. There must be someone living near you who has a setup that you can drive and you will see the difference.

Funny - tonight I was running with the box off - hardly never do that - but wanted to get a head start on cooldown as I was almost home when my wife called and told me that my grandson had something for me - so I quickly detoured there.

I forgot that the box was off and when I was romping her all of a sudden I notioced - not much there and then I realized that the box was off. Well for fun I stomped her and I can make very little smoke with her off - and hardly no EGT. s. Turn the box on - and "Katie bar the door!" No Comparisson - you have a problem - please keep us informed.....
