What is the service recommendation on front wheel bearings and what exactly does it consist of? I just turned 100,000 miles and have never had anything done to the bearings.

Somebody else will probably have a better answer, but as far as I've been able to figure out, there is no service you can perform on them. You basically just wait for them to fail and hope they give you some warning. If you don't mind dropping a few hundred dollars you could just go and replace them, just in case.

Price I got was $750. According to the guy the hub was $365 and that was his "cheapest quote".

I found them on amazon for $215 + shipping.

i just got a set of timkin wheele bearings for my 96 beater/daily driver for $180 for the set... i got them through a friend that gets his stuff out of pensylvania... ill find out the info and post it

YES, please let me know. Especially if theyre Timken

306k

I got 306,000 out of mine

Found SKS unit bearing for 217. 00 each slotted rotors for 115. 00 and studs are about 5. 00 each x 16 ouch... ...

One Stop Undercar...

Are these good prices?

Thanks

SFB

I have 120K miles on mine. Virtually no off roading, and minimal snow etc. (if that matters)

At 300K + I'd be saving my money for this.

Here's what showed up at my door today..... $305 total including shipping and new studs... .

I think it'd be hard to beat unless you know someone who can get you stuff at cost.

Yours takes a different part # than mine.

The # I came up with is Timken SP580100 and Timken SP580101 .

From what I've been reading the 98 and 99 with 4 wheel ABS is different.

That IS a KILLER price.

Edit:

This is a link to the one that fits my truck:

eBay Motors: Timken SP580100 Axle Bearing and Hub Assembly 98-98 DOD (item 180330194013 end time Mar-20-09 19:36:09 PDT)

That whole ABS thing is the difference. At least you know that the guy is delivering what he promised. Real Timken hubs/bearings.

Thanks! TDR rules!

I just saved a ton!

Sent to my door 305 bucks

WOW

Just sent them my money.....

Now to just find a deal on those slotted rotors... .

That's cool. But don't be like me. The money I saved on hubs, I turned around and bought new Biltsiens with. :-laf:-laf So I sorta got a free set of Bilstiens with the purchase of new hubs. Thats how I justified it in my head anyway. :)

Recently had to have the left front bearing/hub replaced in my 97 dually. I did not detect any problem with steering/handling, but the ABS light kept coming on, then off. Because of circumstances I had to take the truck to a local Dodge shop. Turned out the bearing was loose enough to allow the tone wheel to rub on the ABS sensor. It cost about $1100 since the ABS sensor was ruined. Could have done it myself for about $400.

BTW, Rockauto has quality products for reasonable prices.

Another BTW, an old mechanic told me once that the bearings in single bearing hubs will last 500,000 miles or one week after hitting a curb hard. Well, a week before the bearing failed, I hit a bad pothole.

Wish now I had gotten an EMS conversion kit. It would have been cheaper than the repair, and would last a long time and mileage.

A lot of you guys are doing way better than me. I think the best I got was about 80K. When my last one went out I ponied up for the EMS conversion. Not a problem since, but I kept the one gooe old one JIC, one never knows.
