I would just like to take a minute to share with you my experience with getting my KDP fixed. (talk about peace of mind) I decided that I did not want to get on the waiting list for the jig nor did I want to spend the $300 for a jig of my own, so, after a couple of calls that didn’t work out I called Arne’s Automotive Service in Blairsville, GA. They said it would take about 3 hrs. at a cost of $150. I booked them for yesterday at 10 arrived at 10:30 ( it’s a 3 ½ hr drive for me) and was on the road again at 2:15. I was truly impressed with their professional manner and their facilities. Their shop is new with a large clean waiting area and restroom. They took the time to explain what they were doing and show me the jig and all that comes with it. (now I see why it costs 3 bills. ) While they were doing the work they drove my wife & I to “downtown” Blairsville where we poked around old shops and had lunch. Then came for us when the truck was ready. All in all, a very rewarding experience.

So to sum it all up, I would give Arne and his family a five star rating.

Thanks for listening

Gene Earl

Many think the jigs waiting list is long, not so. Most folks will recieve it in less than a month.

I figure what's the hurry, you've already waited at the very least four years already.

Gene, u got hosed, . . i do the tab method, which is better, safer, and u can the the Kdp and see if its coming out of not. I do it in an hour and half and charge $85. At leats your kdp is not coming out and don't have to pay $3,000 to have it fixed. Finnaly saw a KDP come out the other day, . . it was in a 89 1st gen too.

Yeah Bill, Most of the time you can wait for a month. I did and as you know mine spit out. At the very least, the injection pump isn't the black hole it use to be.

Guess I didn't see your name listed anywhere as someone that does a repair, By the by, what's this mean? "and u can the the Kdp and see if its coming out of not" just the kind of person I want working on my truck. Sorry I bothered to share my experiece with you.

No need to get excited Gene! Sorry if the words getting hosed upset u, my choice of words were not right. Next time ripped off, rolled, or taken advantage of; might be a better expression to use. Anyway, the reason for my reply was not to affend u, but to voice my opinion on the jig method and to let u, and others know, that $150 for the jig and 3 hours labor is ridiculous. I know Ilflem took all of his energy he had not to metion that 3 hours on the jig method is crazy, especially for qa shop. lol. The jig is faster than the tab method because less work is done. Again i want to appolgize for the poor use of words in my last post. The KDP issue is very important, but $150 for a guy to take 3 hours on the jig is tooo much. I just to point that out so that when others go out and get the job done, they know what is too high and what is low and what work is involved in both ways.

It's not that it "took all of his energy he had not to metion you got ripped" but more that I skimmed over the post and figured that for $150 that they had tabbed the pin. That would be about the right price for it. $150 for someone jigging it is too much but sure beats $3000 dollars in potential damage by a long shot. Hard to find a shop that will do anything for less than $100 nowadays.

I had my KDP killed using the jig method for free... well actually my 30$ membership to the TDR... theres quite a few jigs out there you just need to use the TDR as the resource it is and I'm sure there are plenty of members that would have helped you out. . and still are willing to help you out in the future:) I'll take all the help i can get

I did mine 2 1/2 years ago with one of the original jigs. I waited a month then but now there are jigs all over the country. Your wait should not be all that long and the caretakers keep it moving.

My TDR membership paid for the jig and about 5000$ in other goodies that I bought because I wanted to go faster. It would have been cheaper to buy a vette if all I wanted was to go fast.

I guess what I'm saying is, I like the folks and fun tha goes with owning a CTD and the $ matters less then the lasting frienships found here.

I have a sign on my dash that the misses bought me. It says,"women come and go, youth and money goes away, but Cummins trucks are forever.

-Paul R. Haller- Oo.

After reading here on the TDR I got off my but and tabbed the CTD. A few months later I helped a coworker tab his CTD too.

2 hrs and we were back on the road.

Whats needed, tab new gasket, seal, red loctite, and sealant from Cummins. Total price per CTD 65-70 bucks. Very simple job to do. Just get in there and do it,if it has not been done before.
