Well I thought I had seen it all until i saw this.
We all know what the KDP is... . Well lets call this the KCB.
One of my friends has a mint 92 W350 4x4 auto. It has
51K on it. It has never towed anything in its life.
Well it was going down the road when it went clank bang.
The short of the story is that the gear case bolt that is directly over
the crank gear vibrated out. It jamed between the crank and cam gear.
IT cracked the crank gear, sheared off the crank key, took 2 teeth off of the cam gear, broke the cam in half, bent 6 push rods, bent valves, and broke 3
lifters. All I can say is JESUS CHRYSLER !
So if anyone has a stock cam out there let me know. I need one,

Thats terrible. It's been stressed its just as important to check those and loctite them when inside fixing the KDP. Which is why I've never supported the jig fix... but rather spending another couple of hours and bucks to remove the cover and see whats going on inside there.

Wow, I'd love to have a pic of that!! Just so I can post it on my shop door!! Please!?! I've got a cam if you want it..... you're gonna have to cover shipping, though. IT's out of a '98 12v, but they're the same, I'm pretty sure. It was running when I pulled the engine apart, as the pin dropped on it and broke the case. I bought the whole truck for $1k, as I needed the head. The one on my '97 cracked around #6 injector from the stock exhaust manifold, I guess. But just the head from Cummins is $1800! So I bought a whole truck, sold the frame for what I paid, and been parting it out. The block is in my shop..... they drove it a long time leaking oil. Nasty bugger... ... .

Oooh what a drag! I just got done staking my KDP on my 89 with 182k on the clock and some of those case bolts were L O O S E! IMHO those bolts are much more of a threat than the pin. My truck is a 2wd, stock with very light towing on it. Good luck, and watch that fuel gear for cracks.

I know how you feel, it happened to my 91. 5, and I just did the kdp fix on my 93 d 350, the kdp was still in the stock position, but the oil pump bolts were only finger tight. This motor was virgin, never touched. I cleaned each oil pump and Internal timing case bolt with brake clean, compressed air and used red locktite and re-torqued them to 18ftlbs per cummins instructions. I agree with doing a aftermarket cam now, It would be well worth it, better fuel mileage and quicker spool up.

I see your in Md, Im in swpa if you need any parts or advice you can contact me on here
