I received the CPFF jig #8 in the mail Saturday and went to work as soon as I had it. The instructions are good and I followed them closly. I was prepared for the fan nut with a very long home made 1 7/16 ,or 36 mm, wrench and a large pair of slip joint pliars. I made the wrench from some 3 inch wide 3/16 flat stock about 30 inches long with a hack saw and a file. The big pliars, to hold the hub, and the long wrench made the task of getting that pesky nut off a breeze.
The instructions tell you to remove both the coolant overflow bottles and the windshield washer bottle so that the fan and shroud can be removed but I don't think that it's necessary. Just drop the fan or remove it and proceed to take off the hub, the alternator, and hub mount assembly. now, you can mount the jig and go to work. The supplied air fitting worked great and the jig is sharp and cuts well.
The whole job took about 2 1/2 hours not including making the wrench and fussing with the air supply.
What a nice jig!! That is a very well thought out design and no mickey mouse, cobbled togeather junk. John did a great job making these jigs and the one I received Saturday worked flawlessly. Thank You John!! Your check is in the mail.
The ca. jig is on its way back to Brandon for safe keeping and to send out to the rest of the TDR members who need it. Unfortunatly, Brandon needs it. I talked to him today and his head gasket blew so he wants to use the jig while his head is being reworked.
Thanks to all for the help and guidence you guys provided, and a special thanks to Brandon and John for their help. Piers, as usual, offered up his help too, when I called. I like the perks that come with the TDR membership!
