Matt, Here is my VHO on this subject. Compared to the Hx35: I am not sure how the "Kwikspool" 12cm housing will "hurt" the egt's. The EGT's will be helped / lowered by the folowing reasons.
1. The larger compressor section of the Hx40 delivers more Volume and lower temp of a air charge = Lower Egt's
2. The larger Turbine wheel of the Hx40 is less restrictive than the Hx35 = lower exhaust manifold pressure & lower Egt's even with the 12cm housing.
3. We also do some other machining/ to help the 12cm be alittle more free flowing without effecting the low end response. I will have several variations available in a short while as soon as I get my new business location started.
4. When Talking about WASTEGATED turbo housings there is much less difference in EGT's at max boost settings even when talking about a 16cm to 12cm change when compared to nonwastegated housings. As long as your waste gate can handle the extra HP.
5. Especially at low, cruise and med power settings you should see lower egts and less smoke (with the 12cm) Due to the increased charge air levels available. Most of the driving we do is at low to "Moderate"

power levels. This is where the stock 16cm Hx40 . . "S. . ks" . . especially on a Automatic equipped with a awsome Diesel Tech (Bill Kondaly) or other tight torque convertor and big injectors. The low end smoke and lag is too much.
There are other TDR members R&Ding the Kwikspool Hx40. As soon as they have the data it will get posted. So far it looks like only an a small increase in EGT's from the 16cm to the 14cm. I am sending out a 12cm today for them to further test.
From my own testing on my 6speed the Kwikspool Hx40 12cm Egt's are much lower then Hx35 12cm and they (egts) climb much slower. The cummins is much happier. It is definately breathing easier. I put my hx35 back on and it feels like my truck has asthma. When towing my 2 trailers (28,220lbs GVW) I can use higher power settings when climbing and can stay in the POWER longer when passing. BUT YES you still must keep an eye on the EGT gauge!!
On DevilDogs truck I decided to start himoff with the 12cm because he Tows very little, Has a Bombed Auto, Big injectors and his bigger issues are Lowend Smoke and TurboLag.
This post is getting way long and I have some more Housings to Grind on so I can mail them out. Feel free to Email me with any questions. -- email address removed --
