Diesel engines make their torque with boost, there is virtually no way to have tire spinning torque when idling around, or even with higher rpm, there is no load on the engine, so there is no turbo boost.
If you must break the tires loose from a roll, then put the truck in 2nd or 3rd, give it some throttle, drag the brakes, build some boost, add more throttle, drag the brakes more, then hammer the throttle. Automatics are easy to do this with, stick shifts take some practice and burn up a lot of brake pads and rotors.
