I'm taking a trip across the country this summer and would like to use my laptop with my Delorme GPS.

I've done a search for laptop mounts, and, although several of our members have good ideas/products, they aren't what I'm looking for.

I'd like to have a tray that fastens to the top lid of our center consoles using elastic straps. The laptop could be velcroed to the tray, to keep it in place. Maybe two flat pieces mounted together by a swivel ring so the laptop could be rotated.

I want something that's not permanent, or, to be quit frank, one that sits on a pole. This is something I'd use just on trips, and want to be able to remove it totally.

I'm probably going to have to work this up on my own, but I wanted to pick my fellow TDR members brains to see if there was something like this already out there... Any ideas??? :) ???

I don't have a pic of it but I did almost what you said.

I put my laptop on the lid of the center console and used a bungie around the laptop and around the whole armrest lengthwise to the truck. The bungie rested on the area above the fingerpad and below the spacebar. Just bungie it and go. The rubber feet on the bottom of the computer makes up for the traction.

I believe ToolMan has some pics also...

I have one, it is a pole mount, but is easily removed when not in use!

We travel with our Delorme on the dash and the Dell on the console. We don't fasten it down as when shifting, I need to slide it back a little bit from where we otherwise want it. We put two of the approximate 3" x 5" limited slip 'patches' on the console and it stays put.

The one I saw, that I think "FIGGY" makes is a pedestal type. I don't want that kind.

I went to Home Depot tonight and bought the materials to make up a swivel tray that will be mounted on the console, using bungee cords or elastic bands. I want it to swivel to both the passenger, and the driver can take a look at it, without it slipping all over the place. If it turns out to be useful... I'll post pictures of it when I'm done... :D

Last year when we took a trip from Michigan to Utah I had the laptop sitting on the ctr. console lid. I had it sitting on a piece of that rubberized mesh stuff and it's like the laptop is glued to the console - it did not move at all. No straps, no velcro - works for me. :D

I have the Pedistal mout that the figster made. I also have that rubberised mesh under the laptop on the pedistal. That laptop stays in place even when doing donuts and Burnouts (Yesterday at Hooters proved that) The mount removes in 2. 3 secconds (YES I Timed it) and swivels every which way but upside down. Passenger tilt / yaw / drivers tilt / yaw as well as height adjust +- 7 inches. it is rock steady and does not vibrate, Nor can your investment take a flying leap of faith when ya jam on the brakes.

I somehow find a new use for it every day. I serves as a laptop stand , breakfast table , service ticket writer , a place to put your license and reg after you have been pulled over , phone charging stand , a place for a box of Joe when transporting , a drum , clipboard , snow shovel in an emergency , a tool bench ... the works :D

How a out a small lazy susan? You can set in on rubberized mesh on the console, then more mesh, cut to fit the top of the carousel, to hold the laptop stable. With that setup, you can rotate the laptop's screen back and forth between the pilot and co-pilot at will (No, dear, your other left... see!!!). When not in use, store in a small cloth sack (like a small pillowcase) and put it wherever you want. A small swivel carousel is cheap probably would only cost $5 or depending on where you buy it.

Figgy just to let you know i got my stand in the mail yesterday.

it is installed. it looks and works great.

great job figgy !!!

thanks again

I would like to know if FIGGY still makes these? And how to get a hold of him. He has turned off his PM. I am VERY interested in one of these. Or the plans to make on myself. -Jason

I purchased a RAM MOUNT off ebay. Very sturdy and allows use of center console to keep the Wife happy. Also got the screen support. Uses the passenger seat bolts to mount. Holds my Dell XPS very firmly, with no problems.
