I'm looking into buying a mount for my laptop and was hoping to get some feedback from people about the 2 different mounting systems i'm considering. The first is the floor flange that bolts directly to the trans hump and the second is the type that goes over and bolts to the passanger seat mounts.

Are any of the users of either of theses 2 types satisfied with the stability of their system? I'm probably looking to buy the system from RAM.

I like the seat mount option due to not having to dril any holes but wonder how stable and how much it intrudes upon the passanger!

Dennis,

Have you got any links or vendor info we could look at so we could perhaps offer a more informed opinion. While there may only be two approaches to the problem I suspect there are multiple vendors using those approachs, some better then others, so it would be helpful if we knew who you were asking about.

Dennis, like 98rammer said-shoot figgy a pm. I have one of his, great quality,he makes them himself. No drilling, just bolts to existing holes in passenger seat base.

I have one of figgy's as well. Stainless steel painted flat black, bolts to the seat, very stable. Good quality. Check him out

I don't have one of his mounts, as I don't have a lap top, but FIGGY's mounts are awesome. Excellent quality, sturdy enough for me to sit on.

Well, there a couple of choices. The pedistal mount is from Ram Mounts and the under passenger seat version is from Jottodesk. The 2 versions below are from Ram Mounts but they do not make a Passenger rail mount for our trucks, only the pedistal type.

I will ask Figgy about his mounts. Problem is that I will want one that puts the laptop in a very specific location so the one piece jobs would be hard to accomodate me. It needs to clear the dash mounted cup holder and center console. It's a 12. 1 inch laptop though, not one of the big 15 inchers or such!!

Figg's Mounts are truly a fine piece. Fully adjustable height , rotation , and pivot. It is a VERY strong and secure mount that utilizes the factory seat bolts allready in the frame. No drilling needed whatsoever. It removes in under 2 secconds and will clear the center console cup holders. I will take pics tomorrow for ya.

Figg's mounts

Well, it certainly sounds like something I'm looking for. I sent off a PM to him the other day!

Thanks for the pics when you get the chance.

I've been using a Gambler Johnson Lap top mount for 4 years in my work truck. Although it's pricey it has served me well. I can use it from either seat and it will swing out of the way or over to the other seat with little effort. I like it so much I bought one for my motor home with a longer arm. My wife can use it from her side way over on the other side of the coach and then swing it over to my side where I can read the maps or other things she's found.

It mounts to the floor and can be gotten with a built in charger/power supply.

I like it cause I can lock my Laptop to it and type on it while setting under a tree by the lake using my wireless Internet.

You've seen the commercials about how everybody is cleaning out this guys office because he's never there. That's me. I don't go to the office unless I have to.

I even built mounts in my off road truck so I can use the top half of the mount with my Sony and my GPS topo maps in the back country.

Gambler Johnson are the same folks who make the Police Dept computer mounts. SO they're over built. And yes I've tried others. Those with the plastic ball pinch jounts don't hold up. I ended up strapping it to the center console to keep it from bouncing.

Just my $. 02

Guys, Sorry I took so long to respond to this thread Ive been out of state for work and have not had much time to read all the threads.

Give me a couple of days Ill get some pics to show.

The people who have my stand, to the best of my knowledge are very happy with them. Like TMTT said there is height adjustment passenger or driver can use it, it will swivel left or right does not get in the way of passenger and the table also swivels for a flat surface or an incline for typing and mouse ease.

Those guys who sent me a PM I got it just give me a little time Ill get your info along with pics

Thank You

There are lots of mounts for anything out there.

The reason I made up my own is because I did not find any that didn't mount or bolt to the hump or the floor. I myself will not drill or put any holes in the floor of my truck, but thats me.

The PMs I have been receiving is overwhelming I never imagined it would come to this.

It takes time to make these mounts and I like a good quality product. I'm not about to skimp on anything, so you guys have to give me some time.

Thank you.
