Does anyone make the type of greaseable leaf spring shackle bolts like they do for trailer(Utility and Rv's)? I have a squeak coming from one of the hangers and I'm sure that a little grease would stop it. Should I replace the bolts or should I pull the bolts and grease them and re-install? I duck my head when I go through a parking lot with a lot of people and the truck squeaks, its even worse in an RV park. I need some advise!!!!

Thanks
Rick

Rick,

Try some LPS#2 on it and see what happens.

I do not know if you have the Camper special package with your truck which includes an overload spring and stops along with a rear anti sway bar. If you do, The squeek comes from the rubber stop rubbing the overload spring because of the extra weight of the fifth wheel on the axle. Mine does this and the squeeks make the rig sound like a bucket of bolts. I'm embarased to drive into a campground too.
I solved the problem by smearing grease on the rubber stops evey time I hook up my 5er. Remember that the weight makes the truck squat so you must add the grease before you hitch up. I bought a can of grease and keep it with the rig so it's always handy and I always carry the bearings <both inner and outer> for the 5er so in an emergency I can repair the bearings if needed, so grease is an essential.
Hope this helps,

Mine was doing the same thing, very irritating. I sprayed the bolts with aerosol white lithium grease,it penitrates as well as LPS or WD-40 but lubes for much longer. In fact I've only lubed mine twice in over 100k miles.

I have also noticed that when I hit a bump or cross a speed bump in a parking lot, it does it also. It must be the bushings that need some attention(grease or lube). I don't like my truck sounding like a bucket of bolts. Also with the poly bushings and the greaseable bolts, are they strong enough to handle the pressure that is put on the springs?
