Competition The ultimate competition

Jim Fullmller,

Two Jim's, One Fuller - one Fulmer

This going to be long confused

Jim ... ... hope I don't get no chiropractor bill anytime soon from you You should have seen the lanch at the strip... ... . double the one I did on you.

Couple of Beers and a crack of the neck and it's ok now;)

The launch was fine just now when your heads sideways:p

lol.

congrats to everyone that stepped up and played on the dyno.

kat didn't you change out turbo's sense you last dyno'd? that could be part of it.

mark

i was surprised to see your #'s so low. with your twins you should be able to spool up on the dyno fast. on every dyno-jet i have been on. i hit 60psi and my blowoff blows. now is when all the work starts with your twins, building a set is the easy part.

don

it's to bad you didn't get a chance to dyno.

The singles traditionally run better on the static load dynos but it seemed like the breaking point was around 400hp. everyone over 400hp had REALLY short spin-up times. the runs were over in inder 5sec it seemed.

I can only speculate about the actual numbers. I went from 60mph to ~130 in 5-7 sec. WAY TOO fast to spool right. I normally fully spool by 16-1800. there it took to about 22-2300.

I want to get on a brake dyno that will put 8k+ loads on it.

Ya I changed..... but I garentee you I certaily didn't lose any horsepower with the turbo swap ;) It drives 10x better and pulls harder now then before, not just my observation... . but Floor It's as well.

And It went out and ran my best 1/8th ever first pass..... weighing heavier then normal.

So If anything I picked up a hp or two.

I have to backup the guys on this too, even with my little 378/832 numbers my truck accelerated like no tomorrow. I ran my second run in lockup from 1900-3200 with no real load, so the next time I went from 1700 and didn't ever quiver even with that low of pump speed but gained 20ft/lbs. If my truck accerated like that on the road I would be done. Boost was down 3 lbs and EGT's didn't get to 1500 till 3200 RPM.

What yall are talking about is ONE of the reasons the little red ford didn't do so well. That dyno is great for hp under 400 I think. Once you get over that, it is not loaded right.

Still had a fun day though.

Andrew

it was a Dyno Jet. However someone said they went over there one day and they played wth it so that it would better fit our numbers, and they couldn't figure it out. They said that the crew tried EVERYTHING that day that can be changed, and nothing worked. It is the same dyno that Don_M hit 500+ on #2 only before, but it might be set up differently from then.

Andrew

I think the rollers are wieghted for a 3500# vehicle. . under half what I'm used to.

The dyno there is meant for gas powered CARS and not intended to load a tubodiesel properly.

nowel

it was a dyno jet.

guys i know you didn't make the hp you wanted, but the dyno-jet is the only option for guys with over 450hp. the problem with a loading dyno is you can't keep traction. i have dyno'd on just about every kind of dyno, and the dyno-jet is the only repeatable one i have played with. find another dyno-jet around and compare your #'s.

that makes me laugh, so how did it do with it's 1000hp at the track? or did that not load it enough either? stuff happens but don't blame it on a balanced piece of metal, becuase that dyno doesn't care who you are, or what you drive.

i noticed about a year ago the only place i ever heard excuses were at the track and at the dyno. the two places were your truck has to do the talking. not everyone can win, but don't make excuses. don't say the dyno was reading low, it read the same for everyone that day, instead say i've got some more work to do. :D this is not a dig at anyone, it's just something i've noticed with performance guys.

Dynos

I've been on half a dozen dynojets and none of them were initially purchased to dyno diesel trucks. The obvious exception being the dynojet at Diesel Dynamics.

It's very old news that the dynojet doesn't load the engine the same as a trip down the road does. This is why Cummins uses water brake dynos to apply a load to the engine. The problem with water brake dynos is they are a two roller design which will not hold the tires over 400 hp on our lighter rigs.

Turbo configuration has a lot to do with how your truck performs on the dynojet. Last year we had a dyno meet in vegas and I could only hit 44psi. This year in vegas I ran 70psi. I had a different turbo system then last year.

Maybe there was something wrong with the dyno, don't know. But some of the things mentioned above are typical.

I could care less if the dynojet dynos are repeatable if they are not accurate. Precision w/o accuracy is worthless.

I've been to cummins and dynoed and broke the tires loose. They didn't strap the front of the truck down to keep it on the rollers. They have the same problem w/big rigs that are turned up.

Quadzilla has a dyno bought that is designed to put a realistic load on our trucks. As soon as the new shop is built to house it I'll let you know how it goes.

Jim,

Now given the fact an excues, is an excuse is an excuse, is an excuse, the red ford has made more on the same dyno. At our first dyno day there he hit 430 something if i remember right. He said he KNOWS it has more now. His other truck there that hit around 405 the other day will get spanked by the red one when they line them up on the highway from the same speed. call a spade a sade no doubt, but maybe they were just having a bad day.

1000hp though still makes me... . :-laff

i hope quad's new dyno will work out good for them. but as i've said the only way to get accurate readings on rigs above 450hp is with a dyno-jet. www.bd-power.com has the 1500hp mustang dyno (twice the size that most the shops have) and even with 2500+lbs of trq convertor cores in the bed of my truck it still spun the tires at 560hp. wouldn't a accurate dyno be repeatable? a loading dyno is not repeatable when your breaking traction.

it sounds like everyone had a good time and that's all that matter's. mark you should be happy you had the highest hp that day on that dyno that's all that matter's if it's a contest. everybody was on the same dyno and you won.

jim

Don't get me wrong... I'm happy to win. I really want to know how much power I can put to the ground though.

The way I see it, the only time the dyno is ever a good measure is when everybody is there all at once. that's not practical.

The strip doesn't work when you have manuals and autos competing. There just seems no good solution to the 'HP Measurement' problem.

lol @ THE HUMBLER!!!

One more thing before I leave for work. I just remember a perfect example of how a dyno number can be wrong from the trucks true power. Now I do not know what type of dyno it was, but didn't Joe D. once claim a couple of months ago that Mitchells white Dodge dynoed at TST and got around 430hp? Do you think that is an acurate number?

Andrew

andrew

tst has a 250 mustang, it's rated at 750hp. these are the mustangs most shops have, this is why traction becomes a issue with loading dyno's. btw it was not the white puller, it was a shop truck.

mark

find another dyno-jet and compare your #'s, i bet it says the same thing. i know you have done a ton of work to your truck, but if it was easy to make big hp everybody would be doing it. you want to make your power by yourself which is great, but you don't think you will be with us guys that have been testing go fast parts for over a year do you? some days thing's work great other days they don't. keep plugging away and you will get there, just don't blame the The Humbler for bad #'s that's called denial.
