Tire Load Range Ratings

Hauled two loads from the gravel pit yesterday, 6.5 and 6.7 ton each. I watched an older Dodge Dakota pickup haul 9/10's ton, mashed him:) But then the dip stick didn't wipe off the spillage on his bumper/step, from the wide loader bucket:mad:

Yea, frustrating how many folks overload a truck, let stuff spill onto the road, etc.

Around here it is very common for folks to haul water since many wells are so deep and expensive (ours is a shallow well at 360', my folks is 800', their neighbor's is 1500'). So Cisterns are popular. Yet folks in an older F150 (or the like) have 250+ gallon tanks on the back of them. Can you say OVERLOADED?

Doing some late fall maintenance on my street. Two loads of gravel yesterday and a load of cinders today. Turned out pretty good, still need one more load of gravel to finish.

Nick, is that a private road?

JR, it is a county non-maintained road. Only a handful of us that live out here. Lot of goat trails out here so when we moved out here we took over the repair. The developer just dozed trails back in the day. I am not sure what the county uses for criteria to maintain them, maybe population?

Number and persistence of squeaky wheels. When we moved here our area had been annexed into the town with the promise they would grade it, and very shortly pave it. Years went by, and finally a band of squeaky wheels finally raised enough heck that they paved it, but residents had to kick in some $$ to boot. Quite an ordeal.

When I served as Public Works Director in our town the real estate folks used to tell prospective buyers the gravel road they were standing on was scheduled for paving. That was over 20 years ago and the town has since paved 1.5 miles of over 20 miles of gravel road.

Hauled three more loads today, same place as yesterday, 260 miles, 19.3 gal. fuel for a 13.47 mpg. I think I can say I am getting 13.4 mpg on this haul:D (QUOTE)

Been a busy two weeks, I must be driving faster or hauling heavyer...fuel mileage dropped, 13.00, 13.11 and 13.06 on the last three fill ups:)

I fried my Garmin 45 dash camera this past summer, left it in the windshield for two hot days. I replaced it on black Friday sale with a 46 so I should have some video again:D
I am going to like this camera better, it has voice control, lane departure and forward collision sensitivity settings that the old one was lacking in.

Remember this repair on my Lamar dump? Lamar's fix for their new models:D Why in the heck didn't they just use 3/8" wall tubing? There would be no disruption to their assembly line:eek: Doesn't appear like they addressed the top side weakness....

Dang! I am really becoming an anti Lamar dump trailer fan. I check up on them from time to time, just for the heck of it, not that I will ever buy another one.

Note the acorn lug nuts on this new model w/8k axles. The 17.5 wheels are hub centric with flush mount wheel face, they require flat faced nuts or a clamp ring to use the acorn style nuts. These are just reversed, installed backwards...what in the heck are they thinking??

I bet you really DON'T wanna know what they were thinking.

Besides, what is wrong with what they did?!? The wheels haven't fallen off yet - have they?!?!? (For anyone who doesn't know me - yes, that was sarcastic).

It makes me mad, Lol Next month my trailer will be two years old, probably going to write a review here and it wont be nice....

This is what should be on the studs....

My PJ came with the same wheel/ tire combo. They did put the right nuts on.
I’m thinking about trading mine in on a new piece. Same basic setup as I have. 14 ft, GN, dump, 8K oil bath axles. If I do trade, this time I’m going disc brake ($1500 option) primer paint before powder coat, and a larger piston on the dump. I’m just not sure if I’m going to be in the woods long enough to make it worthwhile. I’m starting to show my age. Otherwise it’s sandblast and paint for my present rig. I’ve checked into it and hiring it done isn’t cheap.

I have been doing a little online shopping, it is hard to find a non-lowpro. I do a lot of spreading and found that the lowpro is too low on the rear. If the ground is soft and you sink 3", now your bed is almost on the ground.

I like Diamond C but all lowpro. I really like the looks of the hydraulic tail gate on the Load Trail, it is a spreader gate and load ramp, nice! They come in standard deck and lowpro. I also like the hydraulic jacks and maybe the telescopic lift. Speed is real important on the dump when you spread so I am not sure on this. My Lamar is way too slow with the large cylinder and mounted too far back. If you lay your arm on the tailgate when you lift you can feel it lift before the front. Not cool at all and makes for a weak system. You need the weight on the pin for traction, but then you can't lift it, grrr.

Another pro for the hydraulic gate is it is one piece. The barn doors are weak because they are two piece. When you pre-stage the bed for spreading there is a fine line of going high enough or too high. Too high puts too much weight on the doors, too low and the lift won't keep up with the material flow. After 4 dumps I still haven't got it right:D

Fayette trailers in Pa. where I bought my present PJ now offers a custom built dual pump hydraulic unit that can be retrofitted to most any trailer. It ain’t cheap but their video shows it’s twice as fast as a standard set up. It’s listed in their parts Dept as a KTI dual pump hyd unit if you look.

That's an interesting pump. I wonder if it is possible to plumb two normal pumps and get the same output? It would be way cheaper. That dealer has a huge parts inventory.

Those are some serious dump trailers! I did notice the red one had 6 batteries and the black one had 4. You would think the industry would have a better/faster pump for trailers that size.

I checked with Load Trail and they don't offer the hydraulic tail gate anymore. Dump trailers have went up about $2k since I bought mine:eek:

This trailer would be a good buy, awesome unit.

Load Trail has a Diamond C, same size, same axles for $2k more and it is a bumper pull:eek:

Dang you Nick. This thread makes me drool everytime. I finally waved the flag on my old ford dump and kicked her to the curb. Too wore out to continue to "dump" money in it from an economical perspective. I keep looking for a deal on a used dump trailer that I could fit my little L275 in but used units are few and far between around here that don't either command new prices or are clapped out.
And It's dang hard justifying the cost of a new one when all I do is cut my own firewood and haul an occasional load of stone or top soil or mulch.
But I still want one!

RIP fuel pincher :(

I’d jump on that but it’s only offered in 16ft right now. I know it’s only 2 ft longer than mine but it makes a difference doing dooryard deliveries. I may as Fayette if they can get one built at 14 ft. They sell a lot of trailers and are the ones who got PJ to build my present trailer to my specs before they ever started offering the options I wanted.

That's an unheard of price in Arizona for that quality and capacity dump. They must be a huge volume dealer. I wonder if they would sell that trailer on a direct factory pickup? Texas is doable, PA is not. Even tho it is a low pro, I noticed the bed overhang is short so that's a plus.

All you can do is ask. Give them a call. They’re nice folks. Have them go down the option list with you. There’s a few that don’t cost much that I find worthwhile. Example being the 3 button control. Power up,power down, and gravity down. On multiple short hauls the gravity down saves over 100 amps out of the battery each cycle.
