Nick do you have any major truck stops near you? T/A, Loves, etc?

There is a T/A and a Love's west bound I-40 near Holbrook. I go East, there is the Hopi Travel Plaza, all stupid expensive. I always fuel somewhere downtown before I get on the freeway. The Maverick is always stupid busy and always some rude sap sucker dinking around so you have to back out or wait. I need a train horn:D

I can remember when trucks stops' fuel prices were the same as convenience stores or close to it. Now they don't even try to compete. They, like the gov't, believe that truckers are rolling ATMs. Anyone notice that the RV islands at Flying J are always empty?

That is why I buy fuel at the stop a few miles east of the J in Ehrenberg. A lower price and less traffic.

Yes, I started using the Chevron at the Tom Wells Rd exit, though the RV pump was tied up by a guy with an empty S-10 my last time through.

It would be the same if you went to a truck island. I've waited in line plenty of times for drivers who have no couth.

With this truck I generally do use the truck pumps, now. At least there are more lanes to choose from, but you are right many fail to pull forward for the next guy.
Notice that all the time, especially on the larger truck stops go figure?

The biggest cluster with the Maverick is nim wad drivers, they screw it up. Friday when I fueled it was full (the car/pickup island) so I was making a big loop around it looking for an opening and this dude with a small box trailer pulled behind a vehicle to wait in line. Never mind he blocks the whole driveway, so now, I am blocked, a car in front of me is blocked and now my 40' block all the traffic at the store curb, jjjjjeeeeezzzzeeee!!! About that time a lane opened and I quickly parked in it:)

Today I fueled across the street from them at the 76 station and watched the cluster going on:D

12.72 today, different station but same miles, 285 v/s 284.

Nick, same thing at our Maverik, especially when the ropers are in town. I saw one stop part way in the entrance, with his horse trailer blocking an entire lane of westbound US60. Just sat there. I got blocked in at the one in Prescott by a van with a box trailer. Stoopid people do stoopid things.

I use a fuel card (EFS). They have contracts with most of the major fuel suppliers which lets it's card holders purchase fuel at a discounted rate. Even though their pump price is higher than local stations the discount generally puts the final sale price at ¢20 - ¢30 per gallon less than the best price around. At least that's the trend locally.

My invoice from the other day.

As you can see I saved almost a Ulysses Grant on 114 gallons of fuel over the pump price. Next best price locally was ¢23 a gallon higher so I still saved over $25 on this fill up. It's not substantial but as you are aware 115 gallons goes pretty quick and it adds up over the course of a year :)

The card doesn't cost anything out of pocket, the fees noted above are figured in to the transaction before your bank is charged.

My brother had a cardlock account. The one he had didn't have any price on the pump. I asked him how much the fuel cost. He just shrugged his shoulders. He has a '98 7.3 with only about 100k on it. I guess if you hardly ever buy diesel the price doesn't matter.

I had one of those years ago when I was logging, we used it a lot when we had a timber sale that required travel in that direction.

Here in Snowflake it is just pump fuel. I always just fuel at the local country store about a mile from my house. But at $2.29 I figured I would fuel in Holbrook at $2.04-2.06. That's about $4.60 a day savings, so 4 days adds up.

You can see the current prices online before you fill up. Easy if you have a smart phone but still doable if not as long as you are local and have access to the internet.

If your on the road without connectivity in this day and age I guess you can't complain about the price at the pump :D

Not sure if I'm reading it correctly. Your final price per gallon was $1.675 or $2.097?
