Where's The Best Car Wash?

Anyone ever taken an Emode IQ test?

Does anyone have any experience with the log cabin kits on the market today? I am near to making the purchase and want to do a little research. My intentions at this point are to build it myself, my first one but I plan on starting small, around 1,000 sqft. Any opinions are appreciated. Thank you.

One of the members builds log homes... if I'm not mistaken.

I believe his name is Werner. A search might turn something up.

I've looked at a lot of log home companies. I live in a log home now, but it wasn't a kit. It was built buy the original owner. See if there is a log home show coming to your area any time soon. It is sponsored by Log Home Living magazine and they usually have a schedule in their magazine.

For what it's worth, I like Tennessee Log Homes. They have some neat floor plans and I talked to their reps at a show once. They were very helpful and answered a lot of questions.

My largest client is a log home package distributor. Every home is custom, not a "kit". They can do any size large or small. They offer solid logs from 8" to 12" dia. and their biggest seller is an 8" laminated log. Something like a glu-lam beam that is milled to be rounded either on the outside, inside or both. The logs are all double tongue and groove and seal better than most. The laminated logs never check or split and require less maintenance than most. The 8" D-lam are Southern yellow pine and provide an r-21 to r-25 wall. Less than 1/2" shrinkage in an 9' wall. (beat that!) All logs are shipped to the job site and are cut and assembled for the first time there. If you want, I can put you in touch with their top home consultant and he can send you free information.

The Bitterroot Valley where I live is considered the log home builders capitol of the world. I think they might be right, the builders stretch along the highway for miles. They say the quality of the logs in the area are ideal for log homes, but guys I know who build the homes say it's because they can get away with paying low wages in Montana. Anyway, Bitterroot Valley made log buildings have been chosen for new construction on the last four Winter Olympics. They have started building already for the next Olympics, we're talking huge stuff. Quite impressive.

There are several different companies to choose from, a internet search will turn up much info.
