Check out the Toyo CT. They have tougher 3-ply construction and the "snowflake" rating.

I have no experience with them but these are on my short list for my next tire. I have similar usage as the OP, dirt roads, poor access roads and fields, and snow. Whatever I get will for sure be snowflake rated, the tread and compound provide for better grip in most conditions. My Teragrapplers have held up fairly well but they absolutely suck as soon as you get off the hard pan. Just this morning I had to back my empty trailer (2800 lbs) down the path that runs along the one edge of the property and spun the whole way in 4wheel drive. Mind you this is relatively high ground that my wife has driven her front wheel drive car down when it has been wetter than it is right now.
The tires load up instantly no matter which direction they are spinning and it's all over from there.

I have been lookin at those Toyo's Open Country A/T2 285/75/17 and they look pretty good, I like the construction of them and the 65,000 warranty. Just need to see if the bigger tires fits ok in the wheel wells. Is anyone running 285/75/17 on a stock set up on a 2011 RAM 2500 4x4?

bfg's so far i really really like them. last set i had on my 02 cummins ot me 82K miles.
That's really good wear. No matter what my neighbor puts on his 2000 F-350 longbed he's lucky to get 30K. Nearly all city stop and go. Zero towing. He's got the new BFG KO's now and they're showing wear. I'll be lucky to get 35K safe miles out of my Toyo AT2's. The camper's always on.
Nitto's Exo Grappler AWT's have good reviews for wear.

50K on the LT's.

Would they fall under that 65,000 mile warranty that I see Toyo has?

I also have been running the Toy OC AT for sveral sets and rarely get 35k on them, though I realize that is due both to my trucks weight as well as the terrible conditions of the roads I regulalrly drive. That being said, I LIKE what I see about the newer Toyo CT that you are talking about!!

The newer BFGs wear way too quickly, I had 30k on a set on my last Tahoe when I traded it and they were ready to be replaced. I was shopping the Toyos, the warrantee is 50k on the LT rated tires, 65k is only on P-rated sizes. That being said...

I just picked up some new 18x9 +18 XD wheels and have been shopping 35x12.5R18 and 325/65R18 sizes through discount, strangely enough they said the Toyo RT and AT2 do not meet my trucks load ratings and will not sell them to me, and will not touch them if I order them elsewhere... BS IMO, but I use them exclusively so I'm stuck... Looks like I'm going to end up with Nitto terra grappler G2... Or possibly the coopers, I've had good luck years ago with the original STT muds on a 1st gen 4Runner.

Tire salesmen are frequently like car salesman, you have to lead them to the correct conclusions. Both of those tires in an 18" meet and exceed the axle ratings of your truck, no reason not to use them. The salesman simply is not reading whatever they typed on the computer correctly, educate them.

I agree 100%, and it was only those specific sizes I was referring to, the weight rating in pounds is more than adequate for my truck/axle ratings, but in this specific case Discount will not touch my truck if those tires are mounted on it. It was the manager at my local store that I was speaking with. The DOT weight rating of the tires is the issue, apparently. At any rate, I have seen many having great success with the Toyo's in MT, RT, and AT on our heavy trucks. I was going to get the RT. Still might if I decide to run a different size.

I think he may have said that because Discount tire doesn't carry TOYO's, yes i'm sure they can order them. but it's not a brand they normally stock.

Go with the Nitto's then if they are so dead set against the Toyo's. The EXO Grapplers are the same class as the Toyo CT series and have all the sizes you need.

Discount can get the Toyos, not an issue. After digging some more, it appears that the issue is most sizes of Toyos being rated to 65PSI and not 80PSI, which causes a TPMS issue, the weight rating of the tires far exceeds my 6500lb rear axle rating and 10000 lb GVWR. I prefer the Toyos, and can get a far better price on them through a buddy of mine. I just want to make sure Discount will put certificates on em and rotate/ balance em for me. The 285/75R18 RT, as well as the AT2 in that same size and 295/70R18 are rated to 80psi and 4000 lb per tire. Backup plan are the Nittos, but the Toyos work better from what I've seen on our rigs and last longer than the Nittos.

I know what you mean by "salesman" I called my local Discount Tire yesterday to check availability on the Toyo's and he said they of coarse would have to be special ordered and would cost $250 bucks a tire. I also asked about the BFG's and he said they were only $230 a tire and was a much better tire. He claimed that tire is made with a better rubber compound, Maybe they make more money on the BFG's because they regularly sell that tire and they don't even advertise the Toyo's on their website.

I have to agree with the Toyo AT2's. First set just replaced with 56000 miles, 285/75R17 still had 5/32 tread avg all around. 2" front level have no issues with fit, look as if they would fit fine on stock truck.

Nice lookin rig. I hope I can get the 285/75/17, if not you probably cant tell the difference between the 285/70/17 and the 285/75/17

About 1" difference in height, no difference in load rating since they are 17" tires. In an 18" tire there is significant load rating differences. The tire height may cause issues in how you use the truck and the way the transmission works afterward.

Most of the AT tires in rough surface usage are not that great for mileage. The AT II may be better if they have actually hardened the rubber compound but that is TBD.

My 285-75-17 Toyos are like rocks at 65psi. I have them inflated to 55psi. That pressure passes muster on Toyo's psi calibration chart.
My weight is 8650# with my camper on all the time.
On the rare occasions the camper comes off I drop the psi to 50psi front and 35psi rear.
