Ideas for getting tractors from Iowa to NC?

reese hitch

OK after reading the TSB for lowering the ride height on my 2001 3500 4X4, I would like to know what are the pros and cons of this mod ? With the monster front bumper & winch that is now on my truck, the OEM front springs have a little sag, so lowering the rear would look OK. Is there any drive line issues I need to worry about when lowering the truck by 1 7/8" ? I don't do much off road driving, but I like to go where I want when I want.

The other question is what is a good brand of 5th wheel camper ?

I currently have an 1987 29' Coachman 5th wheel that has been a great camper, it seems to be built really well, and am quite happy with it. I am looking at replacing it with a 2000 Jayco 28. 5 Eagle w/bunks and a super slide out. Any input would be great before I make the dive off into mega debt:rolleyes: .

Last question, how much is a used 29' 5th wheel worth nowadays ? Its a 29' Coachman with a rear living room, sleeps six, AC, furnace, dual batteries, new roof, newer Marathon tires, all new brake assy/wiring for both axles, newer awning, rear hitch and some other stuff I forgot about. Its in fairly good shape, nice interior and everything works. Any Ideas what I should ask ?

I had my 2500 dropped and have been very pleased with it. Dropping it should improve the drive line angles so that shouldn't be a problem, and I don't think that it makes any difference at all to 4WD ground clearance as the rear axle is still at the same location.

2000 Jayco 28.5 Eagle w/bunks and a super slide

We have a 28' 2000 Jayco that we really enjoy. We've towed from Virginia to Alaska, from Virginia to Newfoundland, and to Florida a couple of times. Total miles around 26,000.

No major problems. Bad roads and too much speed caused one slightly bent axle, but that's my fault. It has held up well, especially so since the Alcan highway and the Newfie roads aren't always smooth.
