I am considering doing this with the Electrac by Detroit but am concerned with how the truck will handle in 2wd. Will it grab even if i am out of 4wd or will it be open just like a stock front D60.

The Electrac is a selectable locker, not a limited slip. You turn it on or off with a cab-mounted switch like an ARB. Switched off you have a fully open diff, no different than stock in either 2wd or 4wd. Switched on your front wheels will be locked together and your steering/handling will suffer but the traction will be incredible. Let us know how it works out. What are you running in the rear?

i thought that i worked like a LSD when it was off and a full locker when it was engaged. is this not right

Thanks

Trey

Oops, my mistake. It is a helical gear type LSD with a locking over-ride. I have no experience with the helical-gear LSD's so I don't know how they would handle in the front of a 4wd vehicle. I believe it would cause the passenger side halfshaft and front driveshaft to rotate when in 2wd, whether this would harm the diff or affect handling/mileage I don't know.

ARB is an air-operated locker. You need a compressor, tubing, etc. They've been around for years and can have their problems (seals within the diff, tubing can get snagged) but they do work and thousands are in operation today.

ARB locker

that was one of my consideration but i have heard bad stories about them not working when you really need them.

Thanks for the help

What are you running in the back? I put a Detroit locker in the back of my '94 and the difference was incredible, no comparison to an LSD.
