Lugging ETC in 5th gear ?'s

OK, I've heard all the horror stories about the 5spd going south if you lug it in 5th gear.



What is better, doing 45mph in 4th or lugging 5th to do 45mph? I know all of you are wondering, but on post the speed limit is exactly 45. 00000 mph not a bit more.



Does it make a difference empty vs. towing in regards to lugging 5th?

It would help to know your rear axle ratio. From my limited experience, don't use 5th gear below 1500 RPM with light or no loads. Higer RPMs if loaded.
