2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Magnaflow or MBRP exhaust

I know many of you, guys have both, so I'm asking for your opinion. I am looking into T 304 S. S. - which one is easier to install yourself, sounds better, did it have a good fit? Does everything come in the box for complete install or I have to run to stores, looking for parts? Finally if you had another chance to do it again , which one of those two, you'd rather have?

I want something that helps breathing, sounds good, not really loud, is not prone of coming loose and leak, and does not require maintenance. Thank you all, you help me learn so much about those trucks.

Magnaflow does not have any 304 systems, they have 409 and 436 only. MBRP has aluminized, 409 and 304 stsinless to select from.

I went with MBRP and was very happy with everything about the kit. Everything was there, no need to run to the store for a clamp. The hardest and by far longest time consuming part was removing the old system, but that was not a major deal either.



I have no experience with magnaflow.



Noise is not an issue either. Mine sounds awesome, yet very tame for long distant driving. No drone, but I do have the muffler installed, no straight pipe for me. It does sound louder than stock while running light on the pedal, but does get the large truck rumble when into the throttle, but its not TOO much - if you know what I mean. I did install a straight pipe kit for a little while, and it was way too much for me. Plus when towing my 16' enclosed the drone would make your ears bleed. So I went back to the muffler, so been there done that.



Mark and the guys at DPP are awesome and very easy to deal with. Plus they know their stuff, so ask them any questions - you will get the right answer, not an answer just to sell you something.



I love the MBRP system. Its your choice, and this is just my opinion and experience.

Ditto on Crazygator, I have th MRBP the hardest part is removing the old system. It took two hours without the help of a lift for the whole thing. Sounds great causes me to play with the go pedal when going under a bridge. C

I have an MBRP 409 system. It was a piece of cake to install. The tough part was getting the old exhaust off. As recommended in previous posts I bought 3 S/S band type clamps at NAPA and used them instead of the supplied muffler clamps. I wouldn't hesitate buying another MBRP exhaust system.

I bought a Magnaflow SS system. Mine is the system that graduates up to 4". That way my low end power does not suffer. I do not have a fuel box on it or anything. It sounds great, not too loud inside, but loud outside. My wife says it is quieter than when it was stock inside. You can hear a growl inside.



Install was easy and painless. I have no lift, and no help. A sawzall makes quick work on the old system. The new system went on slick (following some of Rip's advice).

All the info on Magnaflow I have only shows a 3. 5 inch down pipe for the Dodges. On a Powerstroke a little bit of off idle performance is lost on a stock truck with a 4. 0 inch down pipe, but I haven't ever felt that in a Dodge at all?? On the Fords if you add approx 60-70 HP with a chip the low end loss goes away immediately.

I have a Magnaflow on my Dodge. It came with a 3. 5" down pipe. When I changed my turbo, I put a 4" down pipe on. Install wasn't too bad. Last night I installed the RBP system on an 04 Duramax. From removal of stock exhaust to tightening the final clamp on new was 45 minutes. The fit was perfect. The sound(for a Duramax) was awesome too. On the other hand, the instructions SUCK. The picture wasn't even close to the actual exhaust. All in all, very nice product with a good sound.

I also believe that little things go a long way. Magnaflow didn't send anything with the exhaust. RBP sent 6 decals, a calendar and a T-shirt. I know where my next exhaust will be from.

Magnaflow was an easy install, everything there, no need for anything. I did it by myself in the driveway at home. I used an electric impact to help "quick snug" before pipes would turn inside each other. Only had to do this @ the turbo flange and the two piece tail pipe, they kept slipping when turning by hand. Follow up with hand tightening once snug. As mentioned previously, the hardest part of the job was removing the old system. A good sawsall and metal blade made quick work of the old pipes.

OK, so what you're saying is RBP and Magnaflow are made at the same place and half are stamped RBP and half Magnaflow. Or, they are both basically the same design but made by different companies. Please let me know if one of these is correct. Mike

Thanks guys, it looks to me that both systems ara really good and easy enough to install. The only question is : will the turbo lag encrease, and will the low end torque suffer on a basically stock truck?

No you'll actually see the turbo spool up faster, stock or modified truck either way!

The MBRP system is 4" right off the turbo.

I put on my T409 SS 4 in MBRP exhaust in January and love it. It is not a true 4 inch downpipe though. It necks down to 3. 5 inch (I believe thats correct) for a few inches where it connects to the turbo downpipe elbow. Other than that it is 4 inches to the end. I love the sound of the straight thru muffler. Get the 5 inch double wall tip and it looks awesome.



I'd recommend the 4 inch SS band clamps. Worth the extra $10 apiece at NAPA if you ever want to remove or adjust the pipes.



I noticed a big improvement in power and never noticed low end lag that was mentioned. By the way, I'm stock (for now) except for the exhaust and air filter. Better get gages (I did) if you don't have them. Get a BHAF or high flow air filter and toss the stock box and you'll hear the turbo whistle. Sounds great. I used the AFE Stage 1 Pro Guard 7 filter. BHAF is much cheaper. The engine breathes much better with the 4 inch exhaust combined with high flow filter (minus the restrictive stock air box of course).
