Off Roading Max tire size for 3rd gen frt end

Have a 04 SRW/SWB/QC 4x4 now with the 9. 25 AAM. Any one out there running very large rubber? Any issues with ball joints and frt wheel bearings? How much lift and how are you using it? As in off-road. Thanks

Hello AFC,

The biggest most used aftermarket tire in use today for 3rd gen dodges is the BFG 315/70/17 ATKO. This tire is the OE tire for the Hummer H2. It can be had for a resonable price for a 35inch tire. (usually between $125-160) The are being used by many on this forum with no to minimal rubbing. I put them on w/ no lift and they worked great. I have since installed a KORE 2. 5 inch suspension lift and they look better. See my readers rigs for pics Please not that this is with stock rims. Almost all aftermarket rims don't have the proper backspacing and will rub. Member Greg Boardman is running 37/12. 5/17 MTR's with a 2. 5 inch lift and gets minimal rubbing. He runs this truck way harder than you can imagine(80 mph thru woops)



you wil get somewhat more wear an tear with larger tires but if you use stock or KORE Weld wheels(the only aftermarket wheel specifically designed for our trucks) this will be minimal.

I ran Maxxis Buckshot Mudder 305/70/17's (~34") on the stock wheels and had no problems with rubbing. When I bought a set of Eagle 17x10 wheels, and had to put a 2" leveling kit on the truck to keep the tires out of the fenders due to the improper backspacing. I have since had to put 1" blocks under the rear to keep the rear from sagging too bad under load due to the leveling kit.
