Could we dispense with the rhetoric?
This thread was about the HP numbers folks are putting down on the dyno. The only part transmissions play in this thread's topic is connecting the engine to the wheels. Discussing the relative merits of different transmissions belongs in a thread dedicated to that topic.
As to Eric's comment, I would be *real* surprised if anyone there interpreted it as anything but jest. *I* surely didn't. It would have been the same if Eric had said Ted should've gotten a Ford; after all, there was a PSD there running quite respectable times.
All the Dodge diesels at MIR ran very well. Most were respectably fast, at least two were *very* quick. The transmissions, whether automatic or manual, played a small part in the races. HP and driver attention played the largest part.
It's too bad. Eric's off-the-cuff quip should have remained at the track. And this thread should not have turned into another trans war; it should have remained focused on the relative HP numbers produced by a variety of trucks on the *same* dyno.
