Yesterday I went to install my new MBRP muffler and it puts the tail pipe to far back. About four inches, so the part of tail pipe that goes over the axel hits spare tire. I could cut the piece of pipe between the muffler and cat, but then my exhaust hangers wouldn't line up. Do you have to use MBRPs tail pipe as well? Has anybody just used thier muffler? How did you go about making it work?

When I installed mine I trimmed both the pipe after the cat and to tail pipe to get everything to line up the way I wanted it to.

I found that the muffler to cat pipe seemed to put the hanger in the right place, so I marked and trimmed the difference from the tail pipe only. Other people have had the same issue. Mark Craig told me some trucks line up and some don't... go figure.

I only cut the portion of the tailpipe off that slips over the stock muffler. In fact, after measuring the new muffler, using the hangers for reference, I discovered that I could cut the stock muffler off without having to seperate it from the tailpipe. I left the tailpipe hanging and it slipped into the new muffler perfectly. I think only about 3" had to be removed.

My install went very smooth. Since my 04 does not have a cat, I used the MBRP cat delete pipe to perfectly fit the space from the downpipe to the inlet extension pipe of the MBRM muffler kit.

Everythings lines up perfectly. The MPRB setup is a really well engineered (and sounding) system. If you are having to "force fit" something, you've got it wrong or the wrong parts.

I am putting this on my Megacab so I think the exhaust hangers may be in a slightly different position than on my Quadcabs. It looks like I will have to modify the exhaust hangers.

The muffler shop had to trim off some of the tail pipe where it goes into the MBRP muffler, seems to be needed on many trucks.

Not a big deal unless you are in your driveway and have no way cutting the tail pipe.

You need to hang the tailpipe first. Then hang the muffler, cut the tailpipe (where it comes out of the muffler) to the correct length, and slip the muffler into tailpipe. Then take measurements and cut the straight pipe to the proper length.

I have a MC, and everything aligned perfectly. I did replace the whole system, but it should be the identical process.

Hope that helps

Hey how is the sound in the cab. I want to do a exaust up-grade to by MC. My local bomb shop did a MagnaFlow on one and the owner made him take it off because it was so loud in the cab. I am getting spoiled with the quite cab of this truck. I almost want to take off the AFE II because it whistles to much. Thanks

Well I got it installed. I had to cut some of the pipe and had to bend the hangars a little. I am pleased with the sound. It's not annoying and it does have a nice rumble at WOT. I don't think it is much louder than the stock muffler in most driving situations.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I find it to be louder than I expected. It's more a case of resonance under certain conditions, not the tone of the exhaust itself. I'd hesitate to say if it's the so-called drone.

When she's chugging with the converter locked, though, the sound is sweet :D

I am very impressed with the way my MBRP system sounds. On the highway it is only slightly louder than stock, but when you get on it, it will get loud. I notice a slight drone when I am towing at lower RPM's - 1500-1700. When I am at 65-75mph the noise/drone is not at all a problem. I can clearly hear the turbo over the exhaust under all conditions.

I had an Aeroturbine on my last truck, the 4040L, and that was only slightly quieter than a straight pipe. I had a 6" tip on this that just barely cleared the body. Honestly, I think if I had left the stock exhaust pipe alone and not trimmed it for the tip, there would have been less in-cab noise.

The best analogy I could give you is that people could hear my CTD through my phone when I was driving my 04. 5. They used to ask me if my window was down. Now, in my 06, they can't tell I'm driving. Some of that can be attributed to the sound reduction upgrades that were made to the 06's, but the exhaust is definitely quieter.
