Diesel fuel explosive?

M/d Truck Injection Pump

Since there's no "other" forum anymore, I'll post here.

It's a "gasser" question, but an automobile none the less:

Info. : On my 97 Jeep Wrangler (2. 5L 4cyl. ), I'm getting engine stumbling and then a drop to 0 (zero) oil pressure reading. It causes the "check gauges" warning light (and chime) to go off intermitently (every few seconds).

Q's: Is it the oil pump? Or, just a sending unit? Or, even a engine bearing maybe?

How do I test for the problem?

Since I get good pressure while driving (higher RPM's), I assumed the pump. Since it's mechanical and not electrical.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Try to hook up a manual oil pressure gage into the oil galley to verify the low oil pressure. I always double check electric senders. It's not a G. M. 2. 5 is it?I rebuilt a 2. 8G. M. v-6 in an older jeep. The crankshaft was destroyed from a spun rod bearing. According to the local machine shop guy, this was a common problem on the older jeeps. I had the same symptoms as you but it was knocking :( . Do you have any unusual noises at all?... Doug

Steve,

I see it now! I had to get my membership re-activated since I changed email addresses. I couldn't see the "other or rigs spotted" forums until Robin hooked me back up. If you need to move this topic, go ahead.

Thanks

As for the Jeep, I bought it used and it does have a bit of a "clatter" (but not the good cummin's kind), but I can't tell if it's a bad sound or not. I haven't learned all the noises on this motor yet, and/or if what is normal for the 2. 5L.

Walker, my dad had a 96 with the 2. 5 that thing was the worst pos in the world!had problems from the day he brought it home from the dealer, anyway at 35000 miles the same thing happend and it was a bad bearing and bent rod. he ate that bill. the stealer would not cover it ,said he was "hot rodding" it..... HA HA. on a good day that thing would almost get out of it's own way.
