Whoa. . It took them 6 years to fix the lift pump problem, 5 years to fix the over heating headlight switch issue, and 6-7 years to mention the KDP.



No need to be in a hurry now. Give it atleast 3 more years... :-laf

I called D. C. and jumped up and down about ac issues and how many posts about it. Told them to pass info UP not down to the dealer. Don't know if because of what I did BUT a guy from D. C. is INVOLVED in the thread and working with a friend whom is a ex Nissan master tech and his dealer on the AC issue. Thread is 14 pages long. He is getting a NEW AC line with a lager orfice shipped to the dealer for the poor ac coolng at idle and poor ac performance from pass side vents. Will see. Thread is on DTR.

I have been watching this thread for a while. Haven't had the chance to measure any temps or such, but here is my $. 02 worth. .



I think the majority of the issue revolves around not enough air moving. I specifically notice this on the air vent on the drivers side near the window. Even at full blast all you feel is a trickle. . I don't believe I have any broken vent doors as the flow of air that is present does correctly move to the different locations based upon changing the selector. Just not enough air moving. .



This really impacts the truck ability to cool in town driving.



When you are on the road and the RPM is held at a higher value for a period of time and you can open the windows for a few minutes to blow out the majority of the hot air the system seems to cool ok. Not like I have the fan on setting 3-4 for the duration of long trips. .



I will say that my wifes new 06 Dodge mini-van is a freezer compared to the megacab. . You could hang meat in the van... Wish the Megacab would do the same. I had an 04 quad cab and it did a much better job of cooling. .

Get two cheap thermometers at a auto parts store. One for left and right vents. Measure the Maga and mini van. I bet its more to it then volume. My 1998 1500 truck and 2000 Mercury Gran Marguis the temp is ALWAYS about 5 plus degrees colder in them under any/same condition as my 03 diesel is. Always. Flow may be a issue also. I believe you. But temp is a issue also. The 06 diesel supposly has a differant orfice and from a few posts I've read a quicker to activate fan clutch to help make it colder at low speeds/idle.

I agree with troll completely. My 04' was a meat locker compared to the new mega. This thing just doesn't push much air, makes a lot of noise doing it, and doesn't cool even close to what the 04' did

If it sounds like it is blowing but not moving much air, you better pull down your glove box and check the recirc door. Open the glove box and squeeze the top of the sides together and pull down. Look to the top right of the HVAC box and move the control from fresh to recirc to check the movement of the door.

Only problem with that is they will only come in the winter when the weather is nice



Anyway, I came across this a/c issue when I was looking for a Mega Cab. Some 06's we drove the a/c just plain sucked and when I asked the salesman he just said the service people can fix it, I shouldn't worry. There was even on 07' that I drove the wife kept saying there was no a/c blowing out the passenger side near the door. I pulled over and checked, she was right.



I started to suspect there was a problem with all Mega Cabs, but when I found one that the a/c worked good in and it had all the options I wanted and in the right color, I bought it!



Good a/c is important here in AZ. My 98' had great a/c so it was easy to compare. We had decided if we could not find a new truck with a/c that was equal to our old truck we would not buy! Lucky for us we did.

I have an 05 standard cab with the same a/c problem. Though my father has an 04 quad with the dual controls on his a/c and it works pretty well. Still though i second on those chevys being meat lockers!

good news now that the weather is cooling of the a/c is working better.

What a joke, Mega Cab Mini A/c.



Pretty sure A/C will work really we this winter.

I have a 2006 Megacab 3500. I love the truck, but the air conditioning is substandard for a vehicle of this caliber. I drive a Chevy at work and the A/C is significantly better. My 97 Ram 2500's A/C is better. I belong to the Turbo Diesel Register and there is a long thread regarding the A/C in 2006 trucks and how poorly they perform in the heat. The dealer says it is "within specs". I disagree. What are the chances of DC stepping forward and making the A/C as good as the rest of the truck?

I sent this into "Dr. Z. " I'll be interested in finding out what he has to say. I wonder what would happen if we all sent something there, or is there a better complaint place? "Meine A/C ist nicht so gut!"



Of course, now I'm hoping my heater works! Fall is showing up, winter's on the way.

I was intrigued with SKing's post about uppping the blower voltage, so I thought I would do a little research on my '06. The blower motor is very easy to access, and sits just above the front passenger's toes. It has a single wire harness going to it with two wires, one is dark blue and the other is dark blue with a yellow stripe. The solid wire carries the high voltage, and the striped wire is the path to ground through the blower speed resistor block in the control panel. It looks like a fairly hefty wire gauge.



The first thing I did was disconnect the motor and probe the connector to see what voltage was getting to the motor. I was running about 14. 3V at the battery, and 14. 1V of that was showing up at the connector. Of course, that was without a load, so I went ahead and hooked the motor back up and nicked the wire insulation so I could probe it under load. At full speed, with the motor blowing, the high side was seeing 13. 3V, which doesn't seem like enough of a voltage drop to merit running a seperate supply wire and doing the relay thing.



If anybody feels up to it, removing the motor is very easy. The first thing you have to do is remove the plastic door trim that sits under the blower motor and continues across the passenger door threshold. This can be done with your bare hands by just lifting up on the threshold. Next you disconnect the wire harness, which is again a bare handed operation. Finally, there are three bolts holding the motor in. Once you have it out, maybe you could get some dimensions on it and find a higher horsepower replacement motor. I think there are lots of people on this thread that would like to see a stronger blower. It's a good aftermarket opportunity!

As I was using my A/C the other day with outside temps at 90+ and humidity about the same, I was listening to the fan, and it sounds like it is just "gettin' it", however, there just isn't the volume of air coming out relative to the noise. That makes me think that the fan is not very efficient for the size and speed. Not having had my fan out, would it be possible to find another fan that could move more air while fitting our motor/housing?

I'd be very happy if someone could find an easy bolt-in fan motor replacement that would improve the a/c system!!



I'm about to take mine in for service because when I have the a/c set in normal or recirc, where it should only come out the upper vents, it also blows on my feet. I don't have it in the bi-level setting where you would expect this.

I had my broken door replaced with the housing last week and no change. The air movment is very poor. My 04 was blowing twice as hard on level 2 than my 06 on high. The blower motor is very loud and very weak.



When i have the vent selected i can still feel air blowing on my feet.



Any body heard from DC on a fix?

I Have An '06 Mega Cab And My Actuator Door Broke And That Was Causing A Poor A/c Environment Inside. Took It To The Dealer And Just Had Them Remove The Door That Fell On Top Of The Opening Inside And The Air Has Worked Great Since. Of Course The Outside Air Is Always Involved/mixed With The A/c And Heat. But Hey, It Works. Can't Afford The Repair.
