McCormick Deering IH 1-1/2 hp Hit N miss

Several of you had sent mail to see where BIG is? he has been guiding a hunter on the Eastern Side of the the Divide. He thought that it would be fun to ride and pull a pack string when he traversed the Divide, and then again on his way back home after the Goat hunt.

He ran into torrential rains for two of the four days on the crossing and is now taking shelter at a Fire Tower. In the Morning he will descend and pick up the hunter and head back into the mountains to finish the hunt.

At the least he will be out another week and a half maybe longer. (I hope not) and then be home after crossing the divide to get back home.

Take Care

Posting on behalf of BIG and Penny,
They are having difficulty getting on TDR this evening probably due to heavy rain in the area!
He has had a pretty remarkable hunting season this year. He bested his longest shot on Elk of 982 yards by almost another 300 yards and then felt bad about doing it? When asked why? He said that it was not hunting, It was just an exercise in his shooting ability and the Gunsmiths talents, then said that he wouldn't be doing that again. Took several family members out on their first Big Game hunt and filled both tags Elk and Deer. The thing that put the biggest smile on his face was when Danny a young man of 13 that Gail and I have been part of his life for almost 2 years filled his tags. Danny may not be our Child but don't tell Gail that!! or your going to have an argument on your hands.

He also guided 8 friends of my Fathers from the Reservation in their 80's, each got an Elk and several put tags on Mule Deer, With Bow and Arrow. That was something that he's very!! proud of, Not being a Bow hunter and the ages of the Men were a greater challenge than the long shot.

He did ask about the painting today when he came out of the Mountains at Gibson Dam Just West of Fairfield MT to re-supply on feed for the animals and pick up the hunter. I told him he can come home anytime. The front room is done and we are working of the hallway and the bedrooms. I don't blame him he hates to paint, He does what ever else is asked of him by the Family without question and most generally has a smile and a pleasant attitude, so we allow him this one " I don't want to do that'' moment.

He said it was still raining but not nearly as hard as before. Suppose to rain Wednesday and Thursday with Thursday being the hardest, Then three days of sun. He was happy with that. Its been raining so hard that the Goats are taking shelter, when the rain stops in two days he hopes to have the hunter in position to greet them when they come out of hiding to eat. It should be a good time to take one and call it a season.

I think he will be happy with that season. He has been out for a long while with a day here and there at home, he's tired and wants to sleep in a real bed for awhile. I would kind of like him home as well.

Nice... That is the kind of hunting I could return to. My experiences in California/Nevada/Colorado have soured my enthusiasm for hunting.

Nice of Penny to give the Hall Pass on the painting for a full freezer. Good trade!
