Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

Hey Anthony. Dunno yet!!! :D I've had the part for a month, but haven't lost the last expanding plug. The parts are in a box behind the drivers seat ready to be installed. I'm waiting for either warmer weather, or "emergency" roadside repair. LOL. From the look of everything, it's gonna work GREAT!! I'd be pulling the transmission if you hadn't pointed out that part. Thanks man.

As for the overheating, it runs pretty consistently at ~195*. I put a new radiator cap on with the proper pressure rating, and that seems to have solved the problem with the radiator overflow. I didn't realize it until I went to replace the cap, but the one that was on there was about 5lbs too light. :eek!!

Update on the GEN light and the 4wd for the one or two of you that might be following my drama. :) I drove the truck this afternoon like I hated it. No GEN light. Weird.

Called Mark about the 4wd, and got a couple things to try. Went to the sto' for a Mtn Dew, and decided to pull the lever back to 4H. It engaged. Sitting still, pull it to 4H, the truck acts like it's in Neutral (release clutch in gear, and truck doesn't move). Pull into 4H at low speed and it engages. again... Weird.

Well those splines that the collar has to slide over to engage the 4WD aren't always perfectly lined up Andy. ;) Sometimes you will have to drive back or forward to get them lined up so the collar can slide over. Its a good idea to get the 4wd engaged BEFORE you need it with these trucks, as they usually have trouble engaging once "NEEDED. " I don't understand why its putting you into a neutral like gear though when just sitting still.

I plan on getting the Posi-Lok system later this year. Funds do not allow right now, but I'm tired of touch & go 4wd I want it to engage EVERY time.

Got Smoke have Terry cal me at 969-2891 he knows me, and I forgot about his ole white Dodge, I prefer to turn all my own wrenches, unless its just way over my head, or I dont have time for, right now I'm going to put the KDP to rest, I just have to get by Cummins to pick-up my gaskets, Wade I hope you get to feeling better I just got over having the stomach flu for 3 days AGAIN! That makes the 3rd time in 4 1/2 months, hopefully I'm done, just laying around not doing anything trying to get my strength back, everyone take care.

Test drive results in "all systems go". Cheryl gets her truck back. :D

Assembly error on the part of ??? built the transmission. Removed the short-shifter too. Replaced the bad backup light switch. Replaced the rear output housing of the xfer as well. It was leaking like hell--bad bushing. Another idiot job by "professionals" in the 'boro--Kelly Transmission on Old Salem. I don't think Kelly did the transmission.

Adjusted the amp too. Dern them things is fancy nowadays.

Road report from her first drive (she just left) -- IT'S GREAT!!!

Gotta love working on stuff that will be in the driveway for several years to come.

Just wanted to personally thank Joe Underwood for the test ride in ol' Smokey on Sat. To bad I wont be able to wear those overalls again due to the pucker factor! I now realize how Smokey got her name!! That thing will MOVE!!

I want to thank Joe Underwood for installing my Goerend tranmission this weekend with help from GAP and two apprentice. They did a great job. I want to thank GAP for the phone call Friday night, telling they had old transmission out and was putting new one in. I was awake at 4:30 SAT. Justin drove me to Joe's Sat. and went for test drive, and was happy. Than GAP told me that comp was only on third level, turn it to level five, and got excited. Anyone that is looking for a new transmission, call Joe Underwood or Dave Goerend, a great transmission and a great price. Thanks Joe for another great deal on a set of AT tires. Last but not least thanks for the smoking ride in Ol Smokey.

Wish I had bought an automatic now since I've learned about Dave Goerend. :{ :-laf

transmission

Hey Wade, glad to hear the test drive went well. hope the best for the long haul, still can't figure where those pieces came from unless somebody that knew was messing with the transmission builder. but its obvious they stayed in that channel in the gear. that's just odd. tell cheryl to take it easy on those ricers.

I think I'm gonna cry, I love you man! It was our pleasure. Joe and I was talking this weekend how about when do you get the chance to make somebody happy by working on their vehicle? There is something about this engine, this truck, and this club that'll make grown men giggle like girls and fork money with a smile :D

Gary, Nice ride! I like them new Optix gauges by Dipricol, Like the windshield mount too. Did you know your truck will powerslide at 50mph? :-laf

Hey Wade,

Whad did you do with the top cover from that transmission? I assume that's what you pulled off? I'd be interested in buying it from you if it's the whole assembley.

Nick, Low brake fluid was the cause of the abs light (it looks that way anyway. ). THANKS for the tip!

Andy.

Wow, you guys are busy keeping this forum going. I just (sorta) caught up with the recent posts, and there is one from 2/8 that asked if the ZOOM truck slipped under load, everyone that test drove the truck drove it respectfully (remember the Sheriff was out there watching on the highway) and no one reported slipping. I put 2000 miles on it from Dickson to Dallas to SC tugging the trailer plus Mustang. Our truck has the premium organic facing in it right now. And yes, I put it into hard pulls up hills, WOT, plus enough hard runs on entrance ramps to keep merges simple for everyone. A CTD owner in Ohio installed the button disc system in an 03 4X4 with twin (don't know if its compound or not) turbos and other mods, he likes it and he scaled 26,800 hauling hay to the auction, up hills he says he can use all of his 5. 9 now. Folks here asked about the winner of the ZVT and flywheel, I have his name and I hope to hear about the installation soon, he selected the button disc system.

You guys suck, a little snow on the ground Friday night and nobody even offered to take me for a ride in Old Smokey. I knew I shoulda took Dad back to get his truck Saturday. :{

They weren`t too bad to mount there Gap, we had to move the w/shield knob down a little, but other than that, it wasn`t bad at all.

So you can put the rear view mirror back on?

Yep. I heated up the mirror "knob" VERY VERY carefully, then used a pair of vice-grips to grab the knob and twist it off.

You have to be careful doing this because the w/shield is laminated glass ( 2 layers of glass with a piece of plastic limanate between). You can`t heat liminated glass very much without cracking it. Once you get it off, the best stuff I`ve found to re-glue the knob is the Mopar rear-view mirror glue. There`s other stuff out there, but the Mopar has worked best in my experience.

BTW, I`m a window tinter by trade, and have been doing glass work for years now, and I was still a little nervous about R&R`ing the knob, so if you do it, be careful.

OK, note to self, next time I get sick, I still have to get on here and read the threads, I am down and out for a couple of days and you all gimme three pages of threads to catch up on. It's good to see ya'll alive and kickin though!!! Glad that I'm back that way now. Talk to you all later on.

Ford/Cummins Conversion - P-pump?

Guys - my buddy Darrin is planning on doing a Cummins conversion in a 2001 Ford crew cab. He has ended up with an '02 block for practically nothing, but it was in a fire so he's going to have to replace pretty much everything. It's going to need an injector pump too, and he's asking questions about p-pumping it.

Would this be a good idea for a truck that tows heavy? He'll be toting around 17,000 - 18,000 pounds most every weekend this summer (dirt car racer) so he needs something that's not going to get hot on him.

I guess if the pump wasn't turned up too much it would work, but do you guys think it's even worth the time and effort?

I've got him talked out of it right now. The only p-pumped 24Vs I've heard of are purely competition trucks. Never have heard of one built for towing.

Thanks for the advice!

Not true Hans. I've heard of quite a few towing trucks converted.

Give JR Adkins a call @ 317-281-3130 as he has converted a few 24V's to P-pumps and a few of them are daily drivers or could be if they wanted too.

You can have a P-pump on a 24V and still be entirely streetable, the pump doesn't have to be nasty for the conversion. ;) :-laf
