Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

I remember a post where a fella drilled a couple of holes in his t-stat and it cut down on the swing. Can't remember the title.

Clutch Problem

JAderhold,

Need more details on the part numbers or source of the clutch parts that you are using to make suggestions about what is causing the fork to bend. Call me or send a PM with details if you like.

Wade,

Did I read this right, you have a straight drive? Got time to call sometime?

I remember reading about the guy that drilled his out too. I didn't quite understand it though cause there's already a decent sized bypass. I wasn't sure what a small (3/32") hole would add. Maybe it was just enough. (SHRUG)... .

I'll tell you one thing though. I'd like to thump the ear of the knucklehead who put the t-stat on it's side and put an alternator mount on the housing. What a PITA to change. The 24v guys have it easy on that deal.

Yep Andy, the 24v t-stat setup is FAR superior to the 12v deal. I threw out that rubber sleeve thingy last time I fooled with one.

Hooorah, the Red One went to 3500r's in third a few minutes ago. No I'm not drinking yet. :p

Gary? I don't follow. The hydraulic issue was that the slave or master was bleeding down and allowing clutch to re-engage with pedal down. I swapped with the salvage truck.

Clutch on the crawler. Binding on the shaft or too much spring pressure in the cover (pressure plate)--are my guesses. Or, wait the gray matter is swirling and I like this one better, how about too much travel in the linkage and it's bending when it bottoms out. IOW Release bearing has traveled 100% but the pedal isn't yet to the firewall... pushing pedal further bends the arm... anybody follow that?

Wade polishes X-tal ball on clutch issue.

Wade,

I like your list of potential choices. Anything that does not allow the bearing to travel freely (like a worn front bearing retainer/guide tube) or no grease in the annular groove of said bearing, or a gorilla cover in front of a wimpy fork, is a definite possibility. The over travel one might be possible, but I rate it as a stretch because if the system was overtraveling, the d-spring tips or levers would be hitting the disc damper (if so equipped) and would cause no release because the disc would not be free to spin down. What's the rest of the story? Part numbers would be helpful, or what the actual powertrain combo would be original to in order to pick the correct parts.

Extra Pedal, located on the door side of truck.

Wade,

Does one of your compression ignition smoke belching stinky rigs have one extra pedal? The one on the far right (nearest to radio buttons) is the smoke control unit, then to it's left (head for the door) is the binder control, TN anti-downhill speed arrestor, then we have the mystery pedal, when de-pressed / mashed / floorboarded allows the Cummins to free rev at will and conversely when allowed to engage / un-mash / side step / creates a significant lurch / jump / tire spin / movement of said truck. The final pedal (keep heading towards the door) is used instead of a brick / log / anvil / tree / neighbors station wagon to prevent said smoke belcher from rolling down the aforementioned hill during the off time when you ain't navigating said smoke belcher.

If yes, and oh by the way, these pedals always come with an extra stick protruding from the hump in the middle of the truck. If you answered yes to the above, then you own a straight drive / manual transmission / hand controlled gearbox device equipped truck.

Next week we discuss on-board navigation methods.

Gary,

Have not heard from you in awhile. How's things on the other side of the mountain? The purple monster is doing great. I think I finally learned how to drive it.

Here's the origin of the humor above. NOW I know what he's a talkin about.

Have NV5600 (small shaft) running through OFE (discontinued 12. 25 edition).

Have NV4500 going through 13" FE (if Chris Rudd 615 210-8888 told the truth).

Have Juicyjuicer built by SunCoast--with plans to replace with NV4500 with upgraded shaft, hydraulics, and DD clutch. I just don't like two-pedal driving--although it IS the fastest way down the strip and it's awfully neat to pull three gears with the sled on. ;)

WHEN I get around to it, I may pull the FE and have Peter reline it to OFE.

That's my trannysmission story.

I'll call.

Have you called Chris Rudd today? 615 210-8888 :D

Gee, I dont know about ya'll, but I would hate to be this Chris Rudd fellow, kinda sounds like Wades alittle ****** at him..... :-laf , they way he keeps mentioning him on all those comments, is this guy in our club, or should I say was he(past tense of course)? And I take it, not to have any dealings with him.

Chris spotted at Krispy Kreme drive thru, Florence SC

A. Cook,

Doing just fine, looks like I get to take the Cummins on a multi state tour, SC-> PA->OH ->SC. Just wish I could go up da hill on I77 from VA into the Smokies instead of down it, but PA ain't exactly flat so I will get some nice uphills to exercise it with. Should be fun. Here at work, we have been about as busy as an un-clothed one armed mosquito farmer at branding time.

Wade,

I got to keep tuned in for one of you keyboard excursions into the dark reachs of your hat holder, makes my day trying to figure it out.

AndyMan,

Got smoke yet?

NO, he subscribed to the TDR, but I think he was overwhelmed by the information discussed here. I think he was too intimidated to hang out with guys who know how to R&R a torque plate. I've found no evidence of Dodge/Cummins savvy possessed by Chris Rudd 615 210 8888 anywhere on the truck--except that the 1998 12v Quad is a slightly rare bird.

The "BOMB" work was originally done by Dr. Perf******* and was just about FUBAR, but I've managed to fix most of that. In fairness to Dr. P--there's no telling how much stuff was changed after his work.

I'm pretty sure that Chris Rudd 615 210 8888, simply replaced (or had the work done--more likely) the clutch/transmission/transfer case, alternator, and shock absorbers.

The shocks and alternator have been performing properly. :p

Hey Gary, I called. What's your extension? "Hat holder" - you guys watch this one, he's funny. :-laf

So I held the pedal down a little longer on the Red One.

Backed out at 3600rpm in third! Don't tell Cheryl. :p

The injectors I got at Dixie D seem to flow a good bit of fuel. 46# on the B1-2 does not clear all the smoke. Bigger housing next time I fool with the turbo.

Hey fellas, can't sleep so I was just cruisin' the TDR and thought I'd show off my new scatter gun. The company I work for presented it to me a couple of weeks ago for 20 years of service. It's a Browning Citori 525 Field Grade 1, 12 guage with 26" tubes. I'm proud of it.

I need new tires for my truck.
Sticking with stock rims & stock size: 245-75-16E

The last 2 sets of tires were BFG AT/KO's, but this time I'm looking for a good highway tire with good wet-weather traction (the KO's suck when wet) and a smooth ride (keeping in mind it IS a shortbed 2500 4x4!)

Since I've moved downtown and I'm trying to sell the camper and ATVs, I'm not planning to do hardly anything off-road.

I've been looking at the BFG Long Trail and the Michelin LTX at Sam's and Costco, though I'm not anxious to go back to Michelin's. My beef with Michelin goes back about 20 years, so maybe it is time to reconsider.

What tires do you guys recommend? (is there anybody else on here running stock size, "street" tires on a 4x4?)
Is there a discount tire store in the Memphis area that can beat Sam's or Costco? Or maybe has a better variety of brands to pick from?

Costco even has a coupon for $60 off when you buy 4 BFG or Michelin tires by June 25th. They may be hard to beat.

I was surfin the web and I like the description of these Goodyear Fortera TripleTred tires, but what the heck kind of load range is this "SL"?

I know, load range D tires with thinner sidewalls and lower air pressure would ride softer than the load range E tires, but then, the camper ain't sold yet. Plus, I tend to overload the truck anytime I need to haul something.

Heck, I would probably drive all the way to Nashville if I find the right tire at the right price. I've been needing an excuse to wander over to your side of the state anyhow!

BigPapa,

Looks great, you a clay buster or a feather scatterer?

AndyMan / Wade,

Truck on e-bay has mats instead of carpet, take it to the Fluff and Suds to wash it out, how much better could it get?
