ProspectorTim, The Michelin LTX MS are probably the best riding truck tire out there. I have had several sets but they will get stuck on wet grass! Toyo's also get great reviews. Just at least put some 265's on that beast! :-laf Get in touch with Joe Underwood.

I was surfin the web and I like the description of these Goodyear Fortera TripleTred tires, but what the heck kind of load range is this "SL"?



I know, load range D tires with thinner sidewalls and lower air pressure would ride softer than the load range E tires, but then, the camper ain't sold yet. Plus, I tend to overload the truck anytime I need to haul something.

P, AND SL= STENDARD LOAD, 4 PLY

C = 6 PLY

D = 8 PLY

E = 10 PLY

F= 12 PLY

G = 14 PLY

Thanks for the congrats fellas. I'd love to get into some clays, just don't have the funds or time. I'm what you'd call a light weight hunter I guess. A couple of dove hunts, couple of bird hunts, and quite a bit of rabbit hunting. Don't shoot much but I love to hear the dogs in a good race. I would not have been able to get one of these if it hadn't been given to me. This one is destined to be a family heirloom.



As for the tires. I've always loved the Michelin LTX M/S's. They're a great tire, until they're about 50% gone. Then they lose any ice, snow, or mud traction, and they are terrible on a wet road. I just took some off my truck that were about 80% gone. They had about 55K miles on them. If the road was wet you better watch out coming up on a stop and I couldn't take off hard at all or they'd spin, all the way up to 5th gear! They're great when new, probably to about 25% wear and then they go downhill.

Nice idea on it being an heirloom. But I think it would be an even better heirloom with some scratches on it from some fantastic hunts. I have my Dad's 1903, but I never got to see him shoot it let alone hunt with it.



Side note, I have my dad's as issued 1903 and my Uncle's 1903 that he made a sporter out of for hunting in the Rockies, both are treasures, even got a button buck last year with the sporter.

No way I'd run 245's OR 265's with less than E rating. Especially 245's. Truck will handle like a sponge noodle and tires won't last with that heavy powerplant we like so much.



I'd also recommend stepping up to the 265. It's a "stock" size even though our door stickers call for the 245. Have computer reset to that size. Good ride, long wear, stuck in grass--Michelins.



Can't recommend any other street tire. I've gone over to the knobby side.

Thanks for the replies folks.

Well, the Fotura Tripletread is out. No load-range E in them.
The "truck" part of their truck/SUV description is for 1/2 ton trucks.

Now I'm looking at the Goodyear Wrangerl SilentArmor or Bridgestone Dueler AT (the dueler HT is also not available in loadrange E).

I can get the Goodyears from Sam's (special order) @ $166. 38 each, and their mount/balance/stem/road-hazard deal is one of the best.
Anybody konw of a better deal?

I would definitely consider 265's, but probably nothing bigger will go under my truck without rubbing the silly fiberglass fenders & running boards that the dealer installed on my truck before I ever saw it. I've tried to get 265's at Costco & Sams before, but they will only install it if it is on the doorjam sticker. To keep it cheap, I've had to stick with the 245's

Maybe Joe can fix me up with a good deal on some good tires, and give me an excuse to go to Nashville while the Goodguys Car Show is in town . . feel free to PM prices if you can't post it here.

I'm gonna head out to the shop to re-do that Luke's Link tonight, while it ain't so hot.

The totaldumbasses at WallZit put 1/2 ton truck tires on my Mom's truck--they "matched the door sticker"!!! ('cept for that little letter thingy) They came off very quickly and were replaced with ohmygod 265's at Cannon Co. Tire.



Pick a tire and pick a size and get Joe Squares to PM you a price. The squareness rubs off eventually. :-laf

Trying to get salvage truck into shop today. Going to attempt it with the Bobcat loader. Then it's all about removing the engine. Robert is waiting patiently.



After that. I'm going catfishing. Probably Wed night at Normandy. Anybody want to go? It's an all night thing. Gotta rig up some lights for the boat. Have 30-40 jugs. Catch bait before dark. Set jugs. kick back for couple of hours, check/reset kick back again. Usually run 'em around 12 and again at daylight or just before.

WELL, OL-SMOKEY PULLED AT THE ROBERTSON CO. FAIR AN DID REAL GOOD. IT WEIGHED IN AT 6270LBS SO I TOOK RED'S 2 BATTERIES OUT OF THE BACK OF THE TRK THAT RED HAD HIS CB SET UP WITH AND WEIGHED AGAIN,6190LBS. THAT PUT US IN THE 6200LBS CLASS. THE NEW T. C. WORKED ALOT BETTER, THE OL GIRL LET AND TOOK OFF. I JUST KEPT AN EYE ON THE FLAG MAN AS HE RAN BESIDE ME AT THE END OF THE TRACK WONDERING IF HE WAS GOING TO KEEP UP. FINELY HE WAVED THE RED FLAG. WE GOT 1ST IN THE 6200 LBS. CLASS. I THEN WENT BACK TO THE WEIGH STATION TO PICK UP THE BATTERIES AND THEY SAID WOW!! WHY DON'T YOU GO AHEAD AND PULL IN THE 7200LBS. CLASS THE CROWED REALLY LOVED WATCHING THAT TRK. ? SO I GAVE THEM ANOTHER ENTRY FEE AND GOT IN LINE. THE SLED HAD A BIT MORE TONNAGE ON IT AND I WAS RUNNING ABOUT 4250RPM IN 2ND GEAR, I NEVER SHIFTED TO 3RD, LOOKING BACK I SHOULD HAVE BUT THE PULL WAS STILL GOOD ENOUGH FOR 2ND PLACE.

NEXT UP IN THE 8200LBS CLASS WAS DALE CLIETT (RDR4X4) FROM TDR TO REPRESENT. HE HAD A GOOD PULL AND DID NOT BREAK ANY THING. HE DECIDED LATER THAT NITE HE WOULD GO LOOK AND SEE HOW FAR HE PULLED, WHEN I SAW HIM COMING BACK WITH A CHECK IN HIS HAND. WE WERE ALL AMAZED HE GOT 3RD PLACE MONEY.

Let'r RIP Joe man. Hey--kill the CAP LOCK THINGY! I was pretty darn sure the converter would help... and Suncoast can put 5, yes that's FIVE clutchs in a converter now.



One the 4500 with extry metal in it: Yep, he says he's got a receipt and it specifies all the stuff they did. It just goes to show you that anybody can make a mistake. Moot point now--it's fixed. That's why I do most all of my own stuff. _I_ can screw it up with the best of them!

Got the salvage truck into the shop. That was a beach. Pulled with truck, pushed with Bobcat. No steering No brakes No help. Gotterdid. Now to start yanking parts.

Man I wish I had some vacation time to burn!
I haven't been on one of them all-night catfishing trips in YEARS.

Instead of the jugs, we used to just hang the lines from low-hanging limbs and brush along the edge of the creek/river. There was one trip when we went back in the morning we discovered there was a HUGE wasp nest on the same limb as one of our lines. ... and I was at the front of the boat, when my cousin turned it in to the bush and cut the motor! I got a half-dozen stings before I hit the water. LOL
