Any Ram guys in SE Florida?

Good Dodge Mechanic in N. Alabama?

yo, so i spent 72 dollars i didn't have to verify that my clutch problem is deeper than hydraulics.

appears that the input shaft bearing hickie thinger is hanging up intermittently.

so i have to pull the transmission and fix that. which would be a great time to replace the 80+ thousand mile old clutch.

so when i find a warm hole to do this in... my trucks coming apart for a few days... after i sell enough beer cans to pay peter for a relining session. i can steal parts offa my other nv4500 if i have to.

but i gotta fix my nissan so i'll have something to drive, as it's leaking coolant like a waterfall from somewhere near the starter which is hidden up under the intake and is probably a freeze plug--rusted out as it happened in summer not recently.

old green!

hell it may be cheeper (yes that's intentional) to fix the green machine. i do miss my crooked loud pipes. hmmm. tags + insurance + rearend - no high gear. yeah, hell yeah--don't need a fan anyway. gotta hook the cable back up too as the solenoid died a couple of years ago about the time i parked it. I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER--need battery. arg.

how yall doing? arright?

>nicotine fit< i quit monday. nebbermind me.

Oo. ;)#@$%!:mad::eek::cool::confused::):rolleyes:

Happy New Year!

well, i guess that's it.

zero posts through the holiday season, not one. at all.

let's pull the plug on our "chapter". or somebody else "take the helm".

my bike and chainsaw forums are rocking right along. bean has hella huge events and all is fun... but nothing here.

see you at a pull or something. .

oh yeah the big indoor thing is coming up real soon... i'll grab a flier and report back.

if i was able to spend time to promote tdr and our "chapter", i'd be setting up a booth at the indoor pull and handing out mags and info. robin would be glad to set any of you up to do that.

i'm not sure which night i'll be going.

OH, and my clutch problem was mostly a bad (4 month old) master cylinder. that was the mexican one. now it has a new chinese metal master... yuck, but it's working and was a warranty part.

peter and woody of southbend were quite accommodating even though i didn't have to send the clutch back... yet. it has 80k on it.

cuttin' wood and forgot all about it.

hey did i tell yall about dropping a tree on my truck? #@$%!

so, hang on a sec. .

i'm back, from mtsu:

Hey, guys... err... Wade. I would probably post here more if my email notifications worked. TDR says it's not their problem it's my ISP (bellsouth/at&t). Whatever... I would call bellsouth but I haven't felt like talking to any Pakistanis lately.

Wade, post up on what day you're going to that pull. I might take a little road trip if a few other things fall into place. Looks like diesel trucks are only on Friday. Did I read that correctly?

no, the trucks will run sat night as well (always have). the list doesn't include sat night yet. the trick is that the "lesser" modified trucks run friday and the ones that don't break try it again on saturday. so you might see more trucks on friday night. the "comp list" is just showing fri nite/sat afternoon.

so i'm going friday night for sure.

now on the notifications... mine work sporadically--and have for years. just the moment i'm "depending" on them... they're not coming in. i've missed a bunch of conversations that way. back when we had those here.

just have to set a schedule to "check in" here every so many days or hours or such.

you passed that multi-state/essay thing yet? i've been cuttin' wood. smart folks use their degrees to earn money to pay others to cut wood for them.

degrees... could use a few more of them right now... the Fahrenheit kind!!!!:-laf

Whats up fellas?

The Underwood Tire gang is going Saturday night.

Wade, sorry to hear you're ready to step down. If I had more time I'd step up. Been a lot of good fun and lots of good friends made right here. Hate to see it waste away.

Maybe see some of ya'll Saturday night.

Scott

thanks Scott, but it's like this: step down from what? and I do have other much more pressing matters. my "career" is directly linked to my other interest so i have to pedal and be involved there to sell frames. (peddle you know).

takes a lot of time doing the work and i socialize via forums with those folk too.

and this has been a great bunch. i've not been much of a "leader" for a a few years and the _internet_ and such has changed so that traffic here is down tremendously. that's a whole 'nuther ball of wax... and i'd get _into_ it if'n i wasn't so broke and hungry.;):D

yo, what we need is a community organizer... :-laf for change! :-laf#@$%!

I figure I better chime in here too, so you won't feel so lonely.

The notifications have always worked for me; I read 'em and delete 'em but rarely have anything to say, since I'm in Memphis and I've only passed thru mid-TN a couple of times.

I'm supposed to meet a guy from Louisville, KY at the pull Saturday to sell him my HX40. I'm thinking I might even bring the grandson and stay for the pull.

Wade, whether you keep the job or pass it on, Thank You for your service!

Since I traded my Dodge for a new GMC, I'll be letting my TDR membership expire (March, I think). I'll probably keep the notifications turned on but won't be able to reply (not much different than what I've BEEN doing!)

Thanks Tim.

Well it's like when Bean had his last event. I had to attend the second ever statewide mountain bike summit. I represent my club there and also am concerned with the future of mountain biking. We started the group, which links together all mtb groups and users in the state, last year.

Love to go to Beans--great facility, always good fun and food, _and_ it's local to me.

I strongly suggest that whoever takes this gig to always use Bean's gatherings as "chapter get togethers/meetings". and the indoor pull, etc...

Made many friends here, stiil in contact with most of them. Be glad to offer advice and dissent to anyone who wants the hat. If no one _wants_ it, i'll keep it as there is one little teeny perk--and i'm _used_ to getting phone calls from all over the country because of our listing in the magazine and my listing in the road companion thingie.

But maybe it's time for hpcr kids to take over... i only gots 12v. :-laf

btw, my clutch is working proper now.

changed the master.

and then it would still "stick" on some cold starts, like overnight. have to put it in gear start and let it buck itself loose. then would work as normal.

hasn't "stuck" in a while.

the napa plastic oem "usa" made in mexico master was bad--worked four months! i swapped it (warranty! like ever get to use those) for the new _all-china_ metal version. which is working fine now.

sure beats pulling a transmission... but the clutch does have over 80k on it. it was in the truck when i got it at 14x and now i'm at 23x,000.

talked to peter and his brother woody about the clutch and those guys are fantastic. (sorry gary they are) when it ever comes out, they'll re-work it for me. and next time i buy hydraulics... that 72 bucks still stings...

Wade, my career has been put on hold for the moment with my Dad being sick. I've still got two semesters left before I sit for the bar. I was supposed to graduate this May, but things rarely go as I would like them. I probably won't start back in Memphis until the fall. So I'm looking at October 2011 before I finally get the damned license.

My "white elephant" (very appropriate) will be going up for sale soon. I know... good luck, right? I have a few cosmetic issues and a little maintenance to do on it and then I'll worry about advertising. If anyone knows of someone looking for a 2nd Gen 24V in superb condition, get in touch with me. I'll sell with or without the major mods.

The lil' Isuzu has gotta go too. That one will go to ebay. Used to be a crazy market for them on there.

I may try to make the pull on Saturday since several of you guys will be there. I'll check in later in the week and let everyone know how it's looking for me. Tim, it would be great to see you at the pull! Hope you hang around for it.

Take care, guys!

Tell me more about that Isuzu.

BTW, I just checked, and I DO still have your phone # in my cell phone.
I'll try to remember to call you when I get there (or close).

yo, yo, yo...

my notifications failed me. and i just came here to report that i just realized that i missed the friday pull.

thought it was thursday all day. . until 3 or 4 just never had a reminder.

suppose i'll be there tomorrow night. my number is all over this thread and in the contact book and chapter info. but then i went off w/o the phone today too.

no i go see what i missed (previous 2 posts)

Won't be able to make the pull tonight. Too much going on around the house today. You guys have fun! Maybe I'll see you next time...

hey man, first--completely understand about the dad thing. some of that going on here.

and there'll be another pull.

(and ftr, tdr notification failed again).

now, what would be real cool is if someone would post up a report from last night. but i wasn't there. i'm sure someone somewhere is talking 'bout it.

Broken truck with alot of money already invested

Hello all,

My 1996 Dodge 3500 4x4 exhibited oil in the coolant. I replaced the head gasket and had the head checked, flatened and a valve job done. After reinstalling head I still had oil in coolant, only this time I had water in coolant also. Removed head again and also removed oil cooler. Took oil cooler to Cummins and had them check it for leaks. They found no leaks, reinstalled oil cooler with new gaskets. Found that I had damaged head gasket while reinstalling head. Replaced head gasket again, only this time I placed the head on the block with no gasket installed then raised it straight up and carefully slid gasket under head and placed head straight back down. After getting it running again was getting alot of pressure out of the overflow tube into the overflow bottle. Shut engine down and check oil level. Level was right where I had placed it. engine had run for about an hour during this process. Started back up this morning (1/22) to flush radiator some more. Checked oil level again and had water in the oil again. Just a note, I have used only Cummins parts. I have come to the decision to replace the engine. I am working on a limited budget just like everyone else. I have done several other things such as KDP repair and installed (I know) Banks Git Kit. Also had a clutch installed approximately 3 months before first head gasket replacement and had only put about 200 miles on it. After replacing head gasket the first time I drove it some and as soon as I started driving it the clutch started squalling. Took back to the guy who had installed it and explained the situation and he charged me an additional $750. 00 on top of the $900. 00 he charged me the first time he replaced the clutch. Upon asking what happened to previous clutch I was advised that the pressure plate springs had fell out of the plate. Needless to say I will never use him again for any repairs what so ever. I guess you can feel my frustration with all of this. I love this truck and use it to pull my 37'6" travel trailer (Even though it has been broken down since I have owned this trailer). The reason I am writing this (sorry if it is to long) is to ask if you guys can help me find an engine that I can install back in this great truck and hopefully get it back up and running? I have contacted Cummins and they have given me a price of $7,815 and some cents for a reman. My truck has 139,000 on it and this problem has destroyed me because I counted on this truck to last me at least a half million miles.

Thanks for lending an ear and I would appreciate any help anyone can give.

I am friends with Big Poppa and he is also on the case.

Before we go tossing this motor to the curb... ...

What did the cylinder walls look like when you had the head off?

When you say they checked the head, did they flux it to make sure it was not cracked?

I am assuming you used stock head bolts? What did you trq them to? (Not trying to insult you) Did you trq them in the correct sequence?

Moving onto the clutch:

Whos clutch was it? If it only had 200 miles on it, the pressure plate should have been covered under warranty. I may be able to help you on that depending on whos clutch it is.

If you want to call me, ask Scott for my number he has it.

Best of luck

Chris

magnaflux time-as indicated above.

for you or the next owner of that engine.

third time is the charm some say.

sorry you've had such trouble.

i'll have more to say when i get back in this afternoon. gotta run.
