After reading this rather exhaustive post on this subject one can clearly see that somebody who has never done any pulling has such strong saftey opinions,,Don M you really amaze me at times with your depth of knowledge of a subject/subjects you have never participated in let alone the saftey precautions involved in the sport,,Since we all know this is a fledgling class and still in its infancy there will certainly be some missed safety items and that would partly be due to no one manufacturing them,,MMMM,now lets see here,a call to my local speed merchants and their subsquent call to the manufacturers of "blow proof'' bell housing reveals that NONE are a direct bolt in for our NV's,so where does that leave us stick guys????,,Nothing made, nothing to use, but, you can certainly tell us of the perils of what will happen without one,,So the next step is a transblanket(which is NOT made for any stick car/trucks)and our ability to modify it to fit over a transmission that is not intended to be used on,how safe is that???,,Want to go further Don???,,Safety is a MAJOR issue with all types of sanctioning bodies no matter what the sport, one would certainly have to know that as soon as the CORRECT piece is available and is SFI approved it will be made mandatory for use pulling and for those diesel drag race hotrodders(oh,yes both NHRA and IHRA mandate a "blow proof bell at certain e. t. s),,Now to your next comment about HP,seems I believe that you said something about Gene's truck and the DRE not being able to hook because he "slipped it" and it was due to him being underpowered for the task at hand(ya know, someone else chimed in on the lack of hp also),,I believe, and without the benefit of the search engine working properly I'll just have to look over my notes,Gene after a recent dyno run with the Phord contingent that are/is a member here he had dyno'ed at near 363 hp,so do they think he was WAY under 400 hp,,I believe that even with all your money spent on "trick'' parts your not much over that,,One would only have to wonder if these who consistently preach the safety issue of these clutches feel safe at hp levels near/over 400 with ANY CLUTCH assembly and no blowproof bell(yes before anyone makes the comment about my little truck and its bell,I never said I feel safe without one),,Reality check here also, how many of you automatic transmission guys feel safe without a blanket on,since they also are not made for the 47RE and again modifing it will compromise safety,,So whats next, they jump on them and mandate the auto guys to a SFI approved trans case,oh rats, they don't make them yet either,,Once again a honest question asked by a member here gets blown out to a product bashing squabble and does not allow the man to form his own opinion,,Its amazing that people can criticize a product they have never driven and only comment on how bad it will be to their equipment and then bring up the warranty issue,,Just like the auto threads, clutches are a owners choice, doesn't matter if they are SBC,Centerforce,DRE,Mitchell,McCleod,ABC or XYZ as long as the owner is content that his product choice will do what it wants,,ALL clutch manufacturers have their respective problems in some way, from customer service to shoddy products, there are problems in all of them, none are perfect they each have their weak points and downfalls,,Most of the time we only hear of the good but what about those who have had bad experiences and chose not to post or tell of them,EVERY one of the manufacturers have those and not one can deny that,PERIOD,,So I'll end my windy rambling here with this, after driving Gene's truck with Mitchells clutch I'd have to say it will do what it is intended to do,HOOK,,As for streetability,it may be a little on the noisy side and hook hard at times, but,I'd live with that to know when you want hook it will,,This was not the first Mitchell clutch I've driven they have both driven the same,,His choice ,his truck, give him honest answers not scare tactics...
P. S. -Joe D and the Famous" Sickly"-Since we easterners can only hear of this famed 609hp shot on a dyno and you criticizing the way the clutch was used in Gene's truck ,riddle me this??-How is it that with all the NOTED hp of the truck you drive, we(any member)only hear, read, see photo's of and all know it was done on a dyno but can not ever see it put to use anywhere else under load??????Just a honest question.....
