Hey guys, now that I've had my 2020 Laramie for three months I'm getting a notification that I need to renew my monthly service so I dont loose the remote start??? I thought that was just for SiriusXM...

Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm not interested in keeping SiriusXM but do like having the Maps and Remote Start. No one at the dealer mentioned a monthly subscribtion for the remote start! Thought I would ask you guys before blindly paying for something I'm not interested in!

Depends on which remote start you are talking about. The one from your key fob will always work. If you want to start it from your smart phone, that will cost you.

I just want my key fob remote start to work, I would also like to keep the Navigation but I have my IPhone still. I live in the mountains and I love being able to start the truck before I head out in the morning! Thanks for the reply

Like said, the remote start with the Fob works always. The remote start through the app is a subscription.
The Navigation is similar but different, there you pay for the map updates but you can always just use the current maps without updates.

Thats cool, The map isnt is accurate as my Phone but for the most part it works well. Maybe I'll do one year and see if I like it, I wasnt going to be happy if the remote start quit working all of a sudden. Sounds like there is a RAM app that I didnt know about...Crazy new world we live in

My boss does this with our trucks for the nav maps. Once a year we "re-activate" all the trucks for a week or two that have this, then he cancels the subscription. I'm surprised they haven't caught on to this tactic yet. Maybe they don't care.

its absurd what they want for the XM guardian (which has the RAM phone app)... its 24$ a month and that gives you the phone app and the ability to talk to the NAV unit for directions.. for that much I can stop and type it in... or use my phone. And the RAM phone app is a joke... only lock/unlock and remote start.. that's it... not other data or features for that fee... I let mine go and they send me notifications still 2y later to re-activate for 1/2 price of 13$... no thank you.

I am cheap and would never spend that fee on any vehicle. My wife's 2021, Santa FE SEL has a free Blue link app for the first three years after that it is fee base. Will when 2024, rolls around the app will be deactivated and I will not use it.

In fact, we did not even pay for the Hyundia Nav package on the vehicle. We use apple car play and the apple phone maps, and music are free on the phone and can be displayed on the information screen in the vehicle. So, why buy something that is out of date the minute the updates are for sale.

The fee base apps and features are something that the automotive industry thinks that they can make money on. So, if you follow the automotive news some items like heated seats and steering wheel, remote start and drive assist are going to be a fee base to use on some vehicles. Just like the OnStar fee that is charged by GM.

Yep I heard BMW charges a fee (subscription) for heated seats, etc... Seems silly to be carrying around all that hardware, its not like a radio app.. I let that stuff expire on the RAM ( I had a year free ) and I never used the app...

Ask your next Lyft or Uber driver if the box on 4 wheels they have is leased from they company. The box on 4 wheels is replaced around 100K miles. Talk about the ultimate vehicle subscription.

Tesla is blazing this trail. You want to use all of the battery you're hauling around?! Well, Cough It Up!

Even SXM is becoming obsolete on one radio per subscription satellite as their own app is better. Satellite is only useful in places where cell phone data is limited by signal, etc. Yet their app allows via unlimited data say 3 vehicles on one phone vs. 3 radio subscriptions. Even though the low compressed audio quality is that I still enjoy my subscription. If nothing else it's a white noise wall.

OnStar Had one advantage of a stronger transmitter to allow cell phone calls in areas a normal handheld cell phone wouldn't work. The "buy minutes" vs. unlimited was already obsolete in 2010 when we used it. Our last GM vehicle, a mobility van, was ordered with OnStar hardware disable as we didn't need another battery draining parasite running all the time. Said another way OnStar offers NOTHING of value rather just dead weight and another module to go bad possibly taking down the vehicle's communication bus.

When the Analog Cell Service went digital the old Analog OnStar units will attempt to drain the battery looking for a signal that's no longer there.

The Obsolete Technology problem also affected say RAM pickups when 3G went away.

Garmin already includes a lifetime map update so let's skip the insane $2000 NAV option on the build sheet. Easy warranty to just swap out a Garmin vs. Wait two weeks to get into dealer service, order parts, etc, when "What could possibly go wrong?" does.

"We turned off your heated seats unless you pay up deadbeat" may not matter to me in Phoenix, AZ, but, taking candy away from a baby: it sure puts H A T E toward the vehicle maker. Esp. if another vehicle maker doesn't require subscriptions. If you want to start a real fight: deal with technical support because "... Even In The Future Nothing Works!" Yeah Deal with automated computer on the phone or lowest bidder who's first and second language isn't English.

All this for just heated seats? Push a button worked before without needing a connection to The Borg!

I can see it now: "I don't want all the subscriptions and PROBLEMS! Order me a Tradesman!" Even then it's not exactly perfect for electronics, but, a lot less risk. I have some glitches now and then like No Start till I reinsert the key, but, no blinding at night Blue Screen on The Etch A Sketch some have encountered with newer and higher option levels.

My 2020 EcoD doesn't have all the bells and whistles.

I'm hoping with my next truck I can do the same. I like basic.

I didn’t realize all trucks didn’t have the ram connect app options standard. I thought they all had the satellite fin and emergency services by 2020.

Nope, not mine.

Even the work 2020 3500 is pretty much setup exactly like my 1500.

The two 2022's and two 2021's we got have nav and the bigger screen.

I guess there are some lower trims/packages that don’t have XM as an option either. They are probably linked.

Nav is not required for the Ram app connected services.
