It's definitely not dexron. The color and smell is very different. But, apparently it's been used by a few members on here.

The color and smell of what you drained, or what you added. What I drained sure looked and smelled like every other atf.

I don't know what the mopar stuff is. But I think Borg Warner designed the transfer case to be used with Dexron.

I will defer to others who may have different sources.

Since I used the mopar fluid I had a new sample to compare to. I remember the BW fluid having a very distinct pungent smell compared to the dexron I had on the shelf.

Just an unofficial observation I made, not that it means a thing.

x2.............
additionally......the 68089195aa fluid truly does not smell like any kind of atf i have ever used before.

Just my opinion, but if I was to use any fluid other than the BW, it would be ATF+4. Better visc retention, group 3 base. The coefficient remains virtually unchanged over 100k mile test.

I found this interesting and did a very unofficial comparison between the BW fluid and some Dexron I have on the shelf. They are visually similar in appearance - visc, feel, etc. The BW fluid however has a much stronger smell to it, not that that means a thing but I was a little surprised how pungent the BW smells compared to the Dexron.

Changed my TC lube this past week. What I drained out of the TC was red in color, felt and smelled like ATF to me but I'm no expert. I had purchased 2 quarts of the BW stuff off of Amazon back in January on sale for $16 a quart. The BW fluid had a much stronger and pungent oder than what came out of my TC when I drained it. 49K on the clicker so I'm suspecting the fluid that I drained was a BW fill at there factory. Bought the truck used @ 26K, not sure if it had been changed before. Next change will be ATF+4 when I do the trans again.

In the past, if I had questions or problems with lube issues, I called AMZOIL and talked with a lube Tech/engineer (NOT a SALES PERSON) and I have never been steered wrong!!
Not that I am a die hard AMZOIL person but I do use their products and think that they are good and that AMZOIL understands lubrication issues and where problems arise and if they have a product to address the issues/problems.

I recently changed the fluid in my BW transfer case on a 2014 RAM Diesel 3500. I found that Amsoil Multi Vehicle ATF Signature Series replaces a large number of ATFs, including Mopar 68089195AA. It states this on the back of the bottle. It was $11.50 per qt at the local NAPA Store.

I did not know Napa started carrying amsoil

Thought I’d live on the edge and just this weekend I drained and filled my transfer case at 74k miles. Dexron VI now resides inside my Borg Warner transfer case....

I used Dexron in my g56 for a year. But it REALLY likes the Redline MT 90. I'm thinking the synthetic Dexron may not be as good as the ATF4+. Just my experience trying different lubes in my g56.

Redline MT 90 is better than ATF 4+ which is better than Dexron syn.

Newsa: Probably most NAPA stores don't carry Amsoil but our local one does. I believe one of the store owner's friends is an Amsoil dealer so he helps him out by stocking the product for him in his store.
