Well, a few months ago I had ordered a rail pressure/fuel pressure gauge from Quadzilla for my 07 5. 9. The first unit I recieved did not work at all, sent it back and recieved my new one. This one worked, and has been on the truck problem free for about a month or so. Monday morning I went to fire it up and the idle was horrible, fuel knocking like crazy, smokin like WOT with the smarty, just like rail pressure was going crazy. I didnt even glance at the gauge, I just shut her down and pulled the codes. I got a rail pressure sensor code and unhooked my gauge, still the same. Had the dealer tow it in and they ended up replacing the rail pressure sensor and FCA. Starting to wonder if the quadzilla gauge had anything to do with the pressure sensor failing. This is all at 15k miles.
Since day one I have felt the truck needed a FCA. Sometimes in the morning while it was warming up it would "burp", but only for a split second then go back to normal. During light cruise I would sometimes get pretty harsh jerking. After I put in the gauge, I noticed whenever these instances would happen my rail pressure would jump momentarily, sometimes too fast to register on the gauge. I then decided I would just buy a FCA and slap it in, since the tech at my dealer didnt agree with me (I was a Chrysler tech for 4 years, and a gasoline powered car was rarely ever in my bay)
I was planning on ordering the FCA this weekend, till this happened. Got the truck back today, and the surging is gone, havent fired it stone cold yet to see if it burps. I have not yet hooked the gauge back up, fearing that it may have been the cause of the rail pressure sensor failure. The fuel pressure side is still hooked up, but I am getting very funky readings, guessing its due to the rail pressure side not being hooked up. Anyone have similar problems with this gauge, or any input? I plan on calling Quad tech tomorrow...
