20+ Day's Camping!!!

I recently purchased a six round Mesa Tactical Side Saddle shell holder for my 870. To install this product, you have to remove the 2 pins that hold the trigger assembly in place & replace them with Chicago Screws (sounds a bit like something from the Obama Re-election Campaign Headquarters).

The instructions recommend using Blue Loctite on the screws so they don't loosen-up. This side saddle is going to have to be removed, on occasion, for trips thru Canada (to Alaska) & I don't want to create a nightmare trying to get this thing off the shotgun.

Do you guys know of a similar product that isn't so strong that could be used on the threads to hold them in place better than just good old torque? Years ago, I seem to recall something around the house that could be used to hold screws in place a bit better. Can't remember what it is, now.

Thanks.

If your not going to be doing a lot of shooting, a snug torque will keep them in place. I have used a drop of fingernail polish on a screw on occasion.

I understand purple loctite is recommended by gun owners to be the right stuff for use on guns. Not as easy to find as blue though.

you can get blue locktite loose... no problems... . It will do just fine

Loctite 242 is the regular blue "medium strength" threadlocker. They also make Loctite 243 which is their blue "removable" threadlocker which sounds more like what you want. As mentioned above and in your other post, a dab of nail polish would probably suffice. Be careful torquing those screws - they strip easier than I thought (the first time:eek:).

I have a similar set-up and I have tightened the screws hand tight and have no problem w/ the screws loosening. Somewhat off topic, but, I also spread a very thin layer of white lythium (sp?) grease on the contact area to displace any sweat/moisture from settleing between the side-saddle and receiver causing rust. YMMV. Good luck.
