A Worthy Cause

Now that one looks almost like the road up to my cabin (being located at what would be the base of the rocky outcrop mountain face in the background). That is before the beetle kill took out 80% of the green.

10 acres butted up against national forest. We're talking DENSE forest. Line of sight generally 20 yards, and impassable in many areas due to deadfall.

Penny,

That thermometer is showing -15 below zero. We will have a few nights at -20 below or worse.

I lived in Houlton years back, I recall a 7 day/night stretch where it was -40 every morning.

Gail was in Maine, at Loring AFB (60 miles north of Houlton) during his recovery.

It left a mark on him, I just don't if it was a good mark or a bad one......:-laf

Gail has spoken fondly of the people in Maine, He tried to stay in Maine after his discharge but couldn't find work.
He loves the outdoors seems like there is plenty of that.

Gail watches the outdoor shows on TV there is one show with a man from Maine on it, looks pretty were he is, also a trucking show that had a family that did logging was from up there. I haven't seen that show on for awhile.

We get some temps that drop into the - part of the scale but not for as long as your talking about. Ours stay pretty much the same after it starts getting cold, single digits or below at night, and could be anywhere during the day, but mostly in the 30's

Our snow fall last year was 130" that's a little above average.

Mr. Sticks

Looks like you have some clearing to do!! Our driveway looked very similar to that. We had to open things up a bit to get trucks into the property, once past the woods it opened up to a less tree area. We would love to have more trees about the house, but with the many forest fires here its not worth that chance.

Oh yeah, lots of cleaning up. I could spend a month up there with equipment and barely make a dent in it. 10 acres is not all that much, but the amount of trees is staggering.

Even just dropping them and logging into piles, the thrash piles would be overwhelming - need an industrial chipper.

We have 35 acres that backs to the LoLo National Forest. Our neighbors are my Father, Mother on one side and Brother and his wife on the other. You will enjoy the quiet when you move there permanently. We have some friends here now that have retired and are in the process of building a home on 10 acres that my Father sold them, they can't get over the lack of noise from trucks and emergency vehicles, trains.

Sound deprivation is amazing isn't it? I have tinnitus (constant ear ringing) and it drives me nuts for the first couple of day's I'm up there.

We get headaches from being in town to long. We went to Las Vegas this year had a great time but got sick from having a headache that just wouldn't go away, with all the noise and smells of city life.

I had skin problems when I moved with Gail to Calif. and had them for the 33 years we lived there, moved back home to Montana and gone within a few months?? that's got to tell you something right there!!
