I have been searching on the forums, and have not found or do not understand(<--most likely) if I have the correct injectors for the engine build.

The injectors are ATS stage 1 50hp. The guy I know at ATS told me they were just the marine injectors. SO, if I understand correctly they are the 370s that I see mentioned as being hot and smokey from incorrect spray pattern?

The rebuild is:

Big valve head with 60 lb valve springs
Colt stage 3 cam ground for lower egts
Cyl. bored . 020
ARP head studs (12mm)
#10 fuel plate
Looking to do the Pacbrake GSK 4k. Done.
The NV4500 has been rebuilt with the extras
Southbend 13125-OFEK

The pickup will be used mostly as DD with a lot of light towing with some heavier loads once in a while. I will not be at the track or doing sled pulls.

I want a reliable engine that will be able to pull the trailers up the mountains where I live without having the egts go skyrocketing or doing 25 miles an hour.

Any comments on which turbo I should look at or will the HX35 work, will help my confusion lessen also.

Thanks.

It would seem 370's would add more horses than that. 370's will smoke a lot! They mite be marine injecors but smaller than 370's.

Turbos, a lot of turbos out there to choose from! You mite consider twins.

Thank you. I have been reading the archives and it does seem to be that if I want the egt's to stay low twins are the answer.

Here is what has gotten done this weekend.

Copied GAmes on fixing up the firewall.

Went to replace the cracked front rotors, found out what the right cuss words were to get the rusted bearings out of the knuckle. Had the thought that "I ain't doing this again anytime soon!" Took the rotors and axle shafts to the machine shop for cryo on the rotors and U-joint replacement on the shafts. Also ordered some new bearings since both sides have a ticking sound in 'em.

Put new Bilstiens on.

Still waiting on getting the engine back from the machine shop. :{

So I received the new sport headlights and put them in.

Will receive the tow mirror upgrades this week.

If that machine shop keeps my engine much longer, my budget is going to be toast with all the accessory stuff.

I have to wrench on it some how.

It is time for work.

Yes I know it is just an engine. I could sit and stare for hours. :-laf

Will have more progress on it this evening.

i would look at some ddp stage 1's maybe 2's. i have them in my truck and really like them, very little smoke and engine runs cool, still have lots of power though.

as for the turbo, since your pulling heavy a fair amount it might be wise to go with something like an s300, turbonetics, or garret powermax. they seem to be really good runners, they will keep the egts in check, and are tough as nails. i just installed an s300 on our 06, completely stock truck. my mom who drives it all the time said it really gets up and goes, has a lot more power now. we dont have guages in the truck so its all seat of the pants results.

Where did you get the sport lights?

I have the 370's with a stock engine (215 pump). They dont smoke as bad as everyone says... ... but OTOH I'm @ sea level. :-laf

Thank you for the info. I will narrow my search a little more now.

I picked them up from Head light depot. They feel quality built (for plastic) and fit like stock after the sheet metal modification on the back of the bucket. Still waiting on my suvlights wire harness.

Once I get this truck running I am going to have to go to sea level just to see how much oxygen I am missing. It has already affected my brain. I just know it.

Not much progress. I got the P-pump on and timed to 17. 5*.

Thanks to all that have posted on the timing. I have read them all twice now and will go back again, just to make sure I did it right.

Then as I was putting the T-fitting in. The one for oiling the p-pump and vac pump. It SNAPPED. Can deal with that until the #@$%! easy out snapped also.

So my afternoon was spent ruining 2 left-handed drill bits, and #@$%!.

Finally was able to back it out. Now to go looking all around town tomorrow for another one.

With the fueling you have an hx 35 will not work... ... ..... on it's own-it will need a partner ;) twins will be the way to go. At your elevation it will be a balancing act.

Interesting. This weekend came across a set of new/used aurora's for sale. The 5000 is brand new and the 3000 has about 200 hours on it. They are off a 12 valve sled puller. Now to get to school and learn up about all the interstices of compounds.

Wheather you go with twins or not, now is the time to install the drain port in the pan for twins before you install the pan.

how much $ for the total rebuild. i dont need one, but im curious.

50 horse injectors would be tiny on compounds, and if that turbo youre lookin at was use to sled pull, take it apart and look for any boo boos. of cource you could also just install the small turbo for now and get the low pressure one later when you get bored.

I am ashamed to say. I would have to admit to my ignorance on the diesel performance scene, and the stupidity? of throwing good money after bad. Oh Well.

Totaled price with having one head rebuilt to stock specs, the other head having MAJOR problems with bad machine work from previous owner and broken exhaust bolts. Three connecting rods bent, crank bent, timing gears chipped and missing teeth, is a grand total of $7,300. Ya gotta add my ignorance to the price of the first head rebuild.

As to the rest of the stuff, I am not telling! I could have let a lot of the small stuff go and driven it like that with no problems. I just have it all apart so I want all the small stuff taken care of, since it is the small stuff that drives me over the edge when it breaks.

To top it off I recived the pickup not running. I have never driven the sucker!

Price wise, I believe I will try the HX 35 for now. The seller of the compounds will do it as a favor for me. So they aint going anywhere. I need to get the truck running to start making money to pay for itself.

With the whining done. Aint they pretty when they are fresh

I have to ask: You are doing all this work and only putting a single disk in?

I am running the South Bend 3250SDD (Street Double Disk) and I am very happy with it.

It feels and sounds like a factory clutch but works like a champ. Last week I had 3000lbs in the bed and a 10k trailer behind the truck ( I building a fence). The clutch held perfectly when getting on the highway, but it did smoke a little more than normal...

Just something to think about before you put a heavy single disk in.

I went with a single disc because, when I called south bend to order the dual disc, Mishawaka asked what I was doing to/with the pick-up and told me that a dual would be overkill. Said the single would hold up to the mod's and the towing that I will be doing, without the complications of a dual in daily driving in stop and go traffic.

That being said, we will see how it holds up.
