Dave,

Move to Utah, No Joke EVERYTHING is cheaper here

DMV on my '01

$155 Property tax

$25 for The reg so total was $180

DIesel Runs $1. 42 to 1. 46 right now... .

Groceries, Sales tax and everything including Water and gas bills.

$30 for water in 3 months

$64 for Power

$40 for Nat Gas

Like I said above even sales tax is 6. 7% !!

I live in Salt Lake City, Not a bad town. Not everyone here is mormon, (Just 62% of them... ... )

Mine was down from $750 to $450 last month due to the VLF offset. Now, thanks to Gray Davis it's going to go back up! The worst part about it is I've got seven cars. :{

Oh yeah, sales tax is 8 to 8-1/2% and suppose to increase another 1/2%.

Thats why we left San Diego 6 yrs ago. Also, Houses are way cheaper here.

The $200-300K houses are like 2 or 3 story and 2500-3500 Sq ft. Our small 1800 SF house is worth $140K it is a split level with AC and a deck on a corner lot.

The $1,000,000 homes are Awsome! Like 5 or 6,000 Sf. big lots, One had a barn for horses. and Maid quarters.

EricBu12. .

dang, we were thinking about moving to Nevada,

but Utah sounds even cheaper then Nevada,

and from Antioch to Salt Lake driving time is around

11-12 hrs from the children, if we move to that area.

will show the wife tonight what you wrote down.

thanks

dave

If you move to a more rural portion of UT, its even cheaper. I like the northern counties myself, but some southern places are nice to live in. To each his own, SLC isn't the best place... but it suits me for now. I like to travel, you get to see what other people live like, but only have to see it as long as you want then you can leave.

Just got my DMV thingie and it was 70 bucks for two years. Next year it's going up to 100 for two years. No IM due to it's being a diesel. Fuel at $1. 63 average, no sales tax, Yet, fees for trailer tags 5 bucks. The only draw back it the long a$$ winter, and more than enough cold to go around. On the plus side, fishing, hunting isn't so good anymore(too many idiots), not to many people and room to roam.

I know these are stupid ?'s for you, but what is the VLF offset?

Why the seperate Reg. fee and vehicle lic. fee?

I got my California Registration today also.

For my 1993 W-250 truck it is-

Registration Fee- $30

Vehicle License Fee (VLF)- $92

Weight Fee- $154

County/District Fees- $9

Total- $223

The VLF fee is suppose to triple starting in October.

Doug

Vehicle License Fee, that the great state of kalifonia

is paying for us, instead of us paying fully, when the state

had alot of money, the "D"'s who control both houses and

the governorship, that it would help pay for the registration

of vehicle's, starting in Oct we will have to start paying 3X's

more for registration, they say an average of around #150. 0 i believe. .

don't know why the different fee's,

again this is kalifornia,

the state i was born in and use to love, not anymore.

it's amazing what politicians will do to the state and it's people,

taxed them out of here.....

I am dreading getting my plates, last year when the truck was new they were over a $1,000 :( :(

I have a buddy in St Louis that says plates are a flat $35 plus safety fee. I could go for $35 for sure!!

$122 per year on my '95s in Montana. Next year the trucks will be old enough to be registered for as long as I own them for a one time fee of $137...

EricBu12...

how much snow falls in Salt Lake area, wife wants

to know, she HATES the stuff...

illflem...

even though your registration is low, it'll be to cold for

my wife to move to Montana, plus the snow factor again. .

i would love it just for the scenery.

thanks

dave

I sure could move to Montana but I'm afraid the wife wouldn't want to leave her family. Born and raised in California and it really hurts to see what they've done to it!

Annual Snowfall here is supposed to be 13-15" Thats in the valley..... higher elevations get more. The Ski areas typically get a 120" base and some melt and some add up more than others..... Last winter was a dismal 9" for the valley, I think... ...

The snow here is like the rain in Ca. it comes and goes. It can snow 2" or 1/4" or 10" on a bad storm but mostly the roads are not bad. I can snow at night and clear the next day..... If you live in Salt Lake City or Salt Lake City unincorporated, the residential streets get plowed.

We use regular salt on the roads and on the bridges, we use a spray that resists Ice.

Some people here have 2 sets of tires, A winter tire with studs or just a better traction tire, and a Summer tire.....

The coldest I have ever seen it here is -11 deg. but it don't get below 0 deg more than a week or two.

We are on our 5th year of drought so the summer is having some water restrictions and on the other side, the winters are mild right now.

If you have a gas vehicle, Gas prices are like 1. 40- 1. 45 Sinclair stations are the best for that.

One thing that is good is we are a "High Desert" climate so it is very dry here at times. 80-90+ deg. here is real nice since the humidity is like 10-15%. Hence almost everyone here uses a "swamp Cooler". A box that has pads around it and water pumps up to it to a tank and air passes through the pad by a squirel cage fan to be cooled and then blown into the house. It is not central air but needs flow to go though the house like ceiling to basement with the basement windows open a crack to flow. This is much less Elec. to pay and gets some humidity in the house.

We have Central air and are getting rid of the Cooler. We use a small portable swamp cooler in the house to replace humidity.

The people here are nice except when they are on the road:rolleyes: Most schools and places have grass and look good. The roads here are getting upgraded a little at a time. We just had 15 miles of freeway replaced for the olympics that was here and now they are doing most of the other main roads around town.

When we get rainstorms in the fall, we get monsoon type Lightning storms and heavy rain. One time it was sunny morning, not a cloud... ... and by 3-4 pm, we had dark heavy clouds, rain, wind, then 2 hours later, GONE! The slogan in this town is if you don't like the weather, Wait a bit!! especially in spring and fall... .

Anyway, this started out as a snow forcast... ... I like it here, would not go back to CA for anything. Since I live near NV. I wouldn't live there either in any town.
