Hey Now!!

Did you ever get an explanation of what caused you're missing teeth transmission?
Nope. I have a few probs with the "new" one. Called and talked to a guy who said they might give me another one, but I have to call back and talk to the right guy. I'll get around to that one of these days. Warranty is good 'til Sept I think so there's no hurry. Anyways... when I talk to him about this trans I'll ask if they keep records of the cores they get back. Maybe I can get a little info.

btw they weren't missing... . I knew right where they were... ;)

I assume they were just taking a break on the bottom of the trans? You worked them to hard, they were tired...

I did what Jason recommended (screw thy neighbor) and it did help some, but it still catches. Even after driving 50 miles, it will still "catch" every gear... it is not easy to drive, especially with the city traffic I got to negotiate. I almost had a Saab for a rear bumper ornament today because I could take 3rd... ended up doing a 2nd-4th shift, but the pause almost got me run down!

I'm thinking I'm going to look into some other fluids... there are two IIRC, that I thought about trying... I believe Schaeffer's makes one and LE makes another.

I might just need to live with it, until it just won't shift... I only drive it to work in the winter...

If you get hit cuz you can't shift. it's not your fault. the other driver should be able to see the difference in rate of speed and/or essentially following to close.

Besides, I love my 1st gear. Gets them aggressive drivers every time when I shift at 5-7mph :). Then they go to pass and I'm in at this time 3rd, hit the smoke peddle and smile and wave :) The "I'm faster then you ya twit, stop driving like a donkey" smile and wave is fun.

What fluid are you running Jason?? Or did you already say??

amsoil MTF synco mesh stuff. with 1/2 tube of limited slip diff modifier. I change it once a year (20,000 miles or so, spring time. I change all my fluids then (except brake and radiator, except for this year, they get changed out this time. can you say $400 in fluids from amsoils!). I like to have fresh fluids in for the street racing season :)

I'd wait until spring/summer to change it again (if you do). get that transmission freaking hot. over 200degrees. park it and immediately drain it. let it drain until the last drops are out. pull your fass covers.

Drop in cheap pensoil stuff (oem). drive for 50 miles. get her nice and hot.

Drain.

replace with the CORRECT amount of amsoil. correct would be to the top of the fill out and get as much in as you can so it's spilling out a little and cap off. . no more then that. (as you should know)

Give it 50 miles and if that doesn't work... . Get a new transmission. :)

Check your u-joints as another said as well.

Maybe you need to beat on the trannys some? like the motor? get it in gear and give it some WOT runs.

maybe try some diff modifier (stuff from napa works) with what you have now?

Amsoil doesn't last as well as the Redline MTL in my trans... only got 10k out of Amsoil before it gave up, been down that road. I even have a UOA on the Amsoil MTF trying to determine what was going on...

Trans gets run all the time... it normally gets at least 5th and 6th WOT once a day. It got a lot worse abuse early on in its life... I gave up trying to keep up with traffic from a redlight.

I've found running overfull causes the trans to run hotter than a normal fill... I figure the added volume of the FCs, combined with the "extra" I can get in through the factory fill, should be more than sufficient. FWIW, I have never seen any change in shift quality running overfilled vs normal fill.

I tried some modifier... can't remember what it was though. I want to say it was Trans-X modifier. I have thought about getting some LSD modifier from Dodge...

I had a problem with my transmission hanging up in gear, sometimes taking way too long to shift. That all went away with the new clutch.

For some time I've suspected the clutch assembly. . the disc was replaced under warranty for a "rattle" (sounded like a coffee can full of marbles). I am occasionally getting that noise again.

The reason I have suspected the clutch is the fact that if I double clutch, or even bump the throttle (clutch depressed), it will drop into gear without a problem. I wonder if changing the fluid is just masking the problem?

It doesn't give me a warm/fuzzy thinking about changing that clutch though... my dad's NV4500 was heavy, can't imagine the NV5600.

Maybe this summer?

And if the clutch is fine... ... ... . replace the transmission as well :-laf

Check the master/slave for proper travel. . maybe upgrade to the heavy duty stuff from SBC. you can adjust peddle/clutch throw with it.

when I got my ConFE, with the stock hydrolics the transmission was tight. Now I just push the pressure place in a bit more in a nutshell and things are fine.

Mine had that clutch noise start at around 5K, and by the time it got bad, and I found out that there is a TSB, it had close to 10K.

I took it to the dealer, and at first they pretended there was no TSB.

I then managed to have them replace the cracked (just barely visible) alternator bracket, power steering hose (both under TSB) at the same time.

I also got the manager to listen to my clutch. And wouldn't you know it, the clutch got quiet as a mouse right in front of the manager, making me look like a fool. It's been quiet ever since!

I suspect whatever was causing the noise, like too stiff a set of springs, must have softened up with the miles.

Fortunately the dealer never had a chance to mess up the installation and have any of your problems.

At least you didn't have to fight with the dealer... on top of the noise, I had less than 3k miles on the truck. The dealer at first refused the repair since it is a "wearing" item like a brake pad. I told them there was no way a new truck should make noise in 3k... finally had to threaten with a call to BBB to got it repaired under warranty.

I know I've learned my lesson... I bought my last NEW vehicle.

When my stock clutch came out it had a broken spring or two, REALLY BAD throwout bearing and surprisingly a fair amount of wear left. I don't remember what the pilot bearing was like.

You ain't-a-gonna change it w/o a trans jack/stand. I'm a wuss, I paid to have mine done.

Just my $. 02, I have had two 2001 CTD ram trucks. One with a NV4500 and the other with the NV5600. I would take the 4500 any day. I don't think the extra gear in the bigger trans(5600) is in the correct location. What I mean I is, I feel it is in the 3-4, 4-5 area. It needs to be at the end of patterns, like a 7th gear. Also on the NV 4500, once I figured out the 5th gear issue, it shifted GREAT, even with 8k -10K pounds. My last opinion, up in northern michigan, I NEVER run synthetics. We tried them in our work trucks,(freightliners) and they shifted awful. I stick with factory lube. Good luck!!
