To add to the above parts list, the following are the part #s that I used on my 1996 2500 4x4 to convert from the inverted Y to the inverted T setup.

Advanced Auto:

TRWES2012S - Drag link sleeve

TRWES3498S - Sleeve for center link

TRWES3496 - Driver's side tie rod - attaches to center link.

NAPA - These showed as not available when I tried to order from Advance Auto, so I ordered them from NAPA.

NCP2693148 - Drag link inner tie rod - attaches to pitman arm.

NCP2696095 - Center Link - the long tie rod that goes from the pssg to drivers side.

NCP2696096 - Drag link.

I am using the stock 96 pitman arm for the above conversion. The stock steering stabilizer will not work in this application. I had installed a second steering stabilizer that was called out in TSB19-05-96. The Dodge part # is: 4856304 Auxiliary Steering Damper Kit. I had to flip this over 180 degrees when I did the inverted T conversion. The passenger side of the stabilizer clamps to the center link and the driver end clamps to the axle. I'll try to get a few picks this week and post them up.

3500

Question. Do these part #'s apply to the 3500's as well? I noticed that most of the conversions posted in this thread are 2500's. Naturally the 4X4 and 2WD would be different. This is a great evolving thread.

Ready to order, if I cough I can change 1/2 a lane. Watch out for a white 3500 in the Northern Virginia area trying to swap paint!!!!

I did a quick search for a 99 3500 4x4 Cummins on both the Advance Auto and NAPA sites and came back with the same parts numbers.

DONE!!

Truck has been on the road for about a week and half. The new style works great!! Before I was fighting it at all times, when I pulled it done all the TREs were worn to some degree - all beyond usable limits.

Truck was aligned yesterday after the new set of 285s and it is breeze to drive now. For the first time it is actually a joy to drive. Now I can concentrate on power mods. The only thing that I can say is ALIGN IT ASAP!! I had 3 cases of severe death wobble on the same strech of highway and when it was aligned (a week late) the guy said toe was out on the long side, I thought I had it at least even and in slightly but I guess not.

Moral - ALIGN IT!

Other than that do the swap I cant image driving it any other way.

Yes it works, these components were originally/mainly 3500 components, standard on some/most 98/99 (the straight axles and 4WD's), and optional Heavy Duty on 4WD 2500's.

enjoy...

Muchsnow Thank you for all your research and commitment to this thread. I will be gutting my front end including the factory shocks (62,XXX). I will also try to photo / document this build out.

I have ordered a PSC Steering box, and a DSS. I will get in touch with TFabian to sort out ordering the tie rod componets.

Is the adjustable track bar coming out the end of March a worthwhile addition to wait for or would you use the 03 track bar with the bracket kit?

Post 100 (this thread) list should be good, relative to the required steering components, If your's is a 2001, just get the parts stated as required and the applicable tie-rod @ the pitman arm from the list. 2001 is labled.

As for the track bar, any form of an adjustable unit I feel is ideal. But then again I like adjusting, or having the option to adjust things. (sometimes almost OCD, just ask my wife... ).

Have a good one,

L. J. M

I highly recommend the Edelbrock shocks, IAS I think, very good ride improvement for the highway traveler.

Edelbrock shocks

Muchsnow thanks, I do need to get this package on the truck ASAP as my wife's racing season is about to begin.

I don't want to raise the height of truck due to the gooseneck/trailer combo. I already have a slightly uphill vs. level trailer configuration. The truck loses it's bug stance and levels out when the big trailer squashes it down.

Do they make a shock that will maintain or reduce my height? A model/part # would be mucho appreciated. While in this arena of conversation what about front coil spring replacement on a 60,XXX+ mi. vehicle that is used mostly for towing either an 8k or 18k trailer?

"Do they make a shock that will maintain or reduce my height?"

Shocks normally do not effect ride height, did you mean "spring". SNOKING

Spring reply

SNOKING, I guess I meant the coil springs if all shocks are pretty standard length + or -, need some solid experience and advice in this area.

Would you replace the springs along with the shocks and if so what flavor? I would imagine there is a balance needed between shocks/springs to complement the task of the vehicle. Thank You for helping to clarify my question.

BDanner, you can lower the bedfloor height of your 2nd Gen 4WD by 1 7/8" if you install the following referenced Mopar lowering kit (check the TSB).

http://www.klenger.net/dodge/2nd-gen-reference/tsb-lower-rear/index.html

I did that to get my 5ver to sit level on the hitch and have sufficient clearance over the bed rails. Be advised that the only shock manufacturer that would say their shocks would work with this mod was Bilstein when I checked out new shocks. The above referenced Mopar lowing kit comes with new shocks, but I couldn't get the part number on the new shocks to crossover to anything - even the dealer parts guy couldn't give me any interchangeability info when I provided him with the part number on the shocks.

Edelbrock shocks front

P/N 3344,These are pricey, but I don't regret getting them at all. Using the part number and manufacturer (and a lot of luck) you may be able to find a better price.
