My throttle was stuck twice(for a few seconds) yesterday:eek: What the hell is up with that? The first time I thought I bumped the cruise control on or something so I tapped the brake pedal and it didn't release. So I pushed on the throttle a little bit and it let go. Then it did it again about 10min later. I pushed the pedal three times before it let loose. Both times I was in 5th gear and was cruising at about 50 mph and when I let off the pedal we just kept on going. Right after that I drove about a 65 miles and no problems. Is it the famous throttle cable or is it something in my pump that is screwed up??

Lube ball sockets on throttle rod!

I had this happen to me heading into a construction zone with trailers in tow.

There is a very good chance you truck falls in the years that get a new throttle rod assemble (Recall) to correct a sticking throttle problem (sound familier).

If not or in the meantime, try to gets so lube in both ball sockets on either end of the throttle rod. If you can get it removed, that would be better. Use something that will last a while.

The other thing to check is the throttle cable for fraying. The updated cable is much better.

My '95 did that in rush hour traffic:--) . The cable was frayed and acted as a barb in the outer part of the cable... recall covered it.

Check for the following:

Frayed Cable

Missing or broken throttle return spring(s)

Unlubed ball sockets... If you have the ones with the rubber seals around the socket, dig in and remove them, then run some engine oil into each one and work the throttle linkage back and forth.

Some trucks with an overabundance of floor mats are known to behave in a stuck throttle situation.

Known problem on 95-96 5 speed trucks that the throttle cable OE design will allow the 6 strand cable to fray. There is a TSB but more importantly a RECALL (finally after 5 years).

Check your cable for fraying. If the cable is good, but of the non shielded version, strongly urge you to get the TSB performed.

If you have the shielded cable (black plastic around cable where it slides / retracts into the larger cable covering) then check the floormats and return springs as suggested before.

I have a 96 and was on my third cable by 62K. OE cable frayed at 18K. Redesigned cable appears to be fine as I now have 139K.

Good luck,

Redram.

Note, the cable can fail either by breaking in two leaving you with only idle speed or can jam in the cable housing causing a stuck throttle - not very good situation to be in.

Thanks everybody- I will check out everything you have mentioned and get back here soon.
