hello,

I cant find a local diesel shop to fix my truck. Cummins wants nothing to do with it. I own a 95 that experienced a head gasket failure. Leak outside the engine only. I took it to a shop I have worked with in the past. Heads are rebuilt and seem fine. They did some tinkering to my P7100 pump three times and the truck ran bad 3 different ways. Really runs rough now below 1500 rpms and at idle. They claim the pump is fine. They say my engine is bad now. Of course it ran fine when I brought it to them. I am being told that if I replace the engine with a drop in including reman turbo, P7100 pump and reman engine that will fix my problem. Yep. Probably would. My option right now is to drive it to New Jersey for a visit to a known Ram Cummins mech.

Does anyone know of a specialist in Florida or in the South?

Randy in Tampa area

Southern Power Systems of Orlando 407-293-7971,4220 N orange Blossom Trail. I believe they were formly known as Dieselect They worked on my truck many years ago when it was having trouble starting. Dodge sent it to Cummins which is in the same neighborhood as Southern Power. Cummins put a new p7100 on it. It still had problems so Dodge sent it to Dieselect. This was done under warranty( they replaced the rubber fuel lines). My diesel mechanic sends work their way if he can't fix it which isn't to often.

It seems that Southern Power is in the Tampa area also.

If the Tampa options dont work out. Garmon's Diesel in Griffin, GA ( just of I-75 about 1 hour south of Atlanta) might be someone to consider. 770-898-8585

I was dealing with Southeast Power in Tampa. I find them to be reputable but as with most shops, when your vehicle comes out worse than when it went in, they don't want to spend any time on it or they claim it was broken and I just didn't know it. I am thinking air in the system or Southeast Powers pump tester only runs inj pumps up to speed and can't diagnose low rpm problems.

I appreciate all responses and hopefully someone can solve my problem. The shop in New Jersey is Autowurks. I know if I drive it up there they will solve my problem, but it is a little far.

It kinda sounds like you have bad injector(s) with it running rough at idle to 1500 rpm. Did it run bad like this before they worked on the p7100?

I call Autowurks, Garmon's Diesel , Southern Power or all three of them. ( Southeast Power I beleive has sister shop in Daytona)

You can crack open the injector(s) to let air out while cranking just unplug the fuel shut off solenioid sensor connector. (As a side note if you have air in your system the engine would be hard to start. )

While engine is running you can crack one injector at a time open to see if engine runs different.

Randy,

You might consider Inline Performance in Bushnell (352-568-7591). Mopar Muscle Magazine has used them before for both muscle car and cummins related articles. I have been fortunate to not have any major issues with my truck that my local shop could not handle, but I would probably them check them out if needed as in your case. Just another option. Good luck.

Thanks for the input Mr Mule. The truck ran fine before the pump was worked on. It was worked on 3 times and each time it ran different but bad. Right now it is really bad. I have learned of a fuel injection specialist in N Florida and I am leaning towards trying them to illiminate any fuel system problems. Southeast Power was able to rid themselves of me by telling me that I just need a new engine and 375k was a lot of miles for my truck. So I now have to go about the business of figuring out for myself what the problem is

I would second the suggest for Inline Performance. I have used them for the last 8 years or so and have always gotten positive results for any issue I have had. And I drive there from Casselberry, which is about an hour and half drive, because once you find a place that you trust with your baby you keep going back.
