:confused:My wife ended up with Pneumonia Christmas day and the 26th we ended up with her in Barnes Hospital in St Louis Mo. ( 130 miles away). After spending 2 nights in her room I desperately wanted a shower and a night in a bed instead of a chair so I checked into marriott courtyard on jefferson and Market. Parked in the handicap space in front of the main lobby entrance. Sat Morning go out and find my doors open, the door handles and locks were torn up and the inside trashed along with pieces of asphalt thrown all over the inside. Looked like someone had emptied potting soil in the seats, floorboards, etc along with chunks the size of cantelopes. I need a way to keep this from happening again. I spent the last 2 nights in the hospital room again. apparrently they have this happen often since the gal at the front desk asked me if they took anything or just trashed my vehicle. I read 4 or five years ago that someone made some type of plate that goes inside the door behind the door handle that keep these low life scum from prying out the handle and unlocking the door. I need to know where to get them. I never expected to need anything like this, ( I'll only be 50 tomorrow) but my wife and i both got terminal diagnosis this year and it looks like we are going to be making a lot of these trips for however long we last. we have already ended up @ the hospital in St Louis 6 times this last year. Got to go back Friday. Reason i am staying at Mariott is becAUse my Bro inlaw has several million points accumulated up and he is paying for the room ( good only at marriotts) for us when one of us needs it while the other is in the hospital. I need to know how to stop this breaking in. After i saw that she was getting more stable Sat i drove down to Arnold to a car wash and cleaned out the truck. took me all afternoon, plus had to take her clothes that were in the truck to the cleaners because they were a disgusting mess. If anybody knows where I can get this anti theft deterent let me know. When I got back to the hospital garage from the hotel i locked the truck not thinking about the locks being torn up on the outside of the doors. Her door zapper died years ago so I gave her mine. If we hadn't had her keys with the zapper in her room I wouldn't have been able to get back in the truck since locks were trashed. I have to hit the zapper button several times till it finally manages to jack the buttons up enough to unlock the door.. Any help would be appreciated. I searched the threads but could only find about kill switches. I know I heard about this plate from a TDR'r .

:rolleyes:Thanks for the fast reply. My wifes car has been broken into and trashed too. It is a 96 chrysler cirrus. anyone know where I can get these things for it to? I. m going to order the Jimmi Jammer for the P. U. in the morning. They might tear up the door handle but at least i won't have to spend all afternoon cleaning up the mess inside. does show it pays to unplug a relay and take into the room with you though. Thanks.

You might give them(trucksecurity) a call and see. Do any of these places that you get broken into have cameras in the parking lots? I know of a hit and run in a Wal-Mart lot and the police looked at the video to get the guy. You might ask them if there is a way to electrify your handles when you lock the car... that'd be sweet!

don't know if they have any security or not. didn't see any cameras, but I told them they need some. they can get cameras, recorder , & monitor for $400. No excuse not to have them. Gotta read this that I just found. Fingerprint Car Security, Fingerprint Car Alarm, Fingerprint Car Security USA, Fingerprint Car Security US, Automobile security, Car Alarm, Car Alarms, Remote Car Starters, Keyless Entry, Fingerprint Car Remote Control, Car Accessories, Car Security, ( finger print touch pads) Additional security feature called Robotic Offensive security. "We guarntee you 100% that the thiefs body is paralyzed for 30 minutes or more if he attempts to steal your vehicle" don't know where al the fingerprint security bit came from . VERY NICE... I like the "This security feature is legally permitted in USA, UK & Europe... " Quite a system for a pickup, though. Good luck and I hope you get-a-hold of the *******s!

dseabaugh, I'm very sorry to hear about the break-in and the serious medical problems for you and your wife.

I park my '98 at hotels quite often, and have taken several steps to prevent break-ins. I do have the Jimmi-Jammers, and their window decal helps some. I also installed a flashing Varad LED in the dashboard whenever the truck is turned off, which makes people wonder whether you have an alarm.

Finally, I park defensively by backing into the spot, turning the front wheels all the way in one direction, and carrying all of my valuables into the hotel room with me in a backpack. I leave nothing in plain view for the meth-heads to see. I also park as close to my room as possible and under a parking lot light.

Here is a link to the Varad LED... .

Sorry to hear about your loss and your wife's hospital stay. You may try a large sign on your back window that says, "CAUTION, PET RATTLESNAKE INSIDE".

Dseabaugh,

Did I read you right, you both got terminal diagnosis? If I were faced with that, I'd be real tempted to get my last revenge with about 5 lbs of explosive wired to the seat or steering wheel with about a 5 second delay after the door was opened!

OK, I'm only (half) joking. Too much possibility of collateral damage. But still...

I have a real tough time forgiving malicious vandals and thieves, especially when they prey on someone like you folks.

I don't have any practical solutions, just a ton of sympathy. Well, maybe one: how about a set of truck air horns tucked up behind the front bumper or lower frame support under the radiator (like my Hadleys) and a decent size air tank back on the frame, all wired to a car alarm. You can use the horn when needed during normal driving, too. When they set off the alarm, the truck sounds like a semi blasting away.

JGK, you got it right. hers this summer and me Nov. 2nd. I am suppossed to go on Meds Fri that might buy me a couple years. I've been setting by her bed all night. she won't take her medicine and says she wants to die. Dr told me this afternoon to bring her back to the emergency room, but she refuses to go. says she tired of being sick and wants to die. she it too weak to set up or walk any more and even though she is 64 # lighter than me at 81# now i can't pick her up any more. I've been taking a break when i can't take it any more and emailing back and forth to our son in chicago and looking at the TDR. Truck is supposed to be fixed MONDay and tues. said it would take 2 days. today is my 50 th birthday. I've had a lot of bad luck things happen on my birthdays over the years and I hope her dying not going to be another one. Already bad enough as I locked myself out at the drugstore this afternoon. Just hit the lock button when I got out as always forgetting that the door locks were screwed up. got back and couldn't unlock doors because I don't have a zapper on my keyring. had to call a neighbor to go to the house and get my wifes keyring ( gave her my zapper when hers quit working) and come zap me into the truck so I could come home. Gotta go, getting all teary eyed thinking about her and need to check on her again. I have a sister in law that needs prayers too. she is 35 and has breast cancer spreading all through her body. she is in chemo but drs aren't giving her much chance. even w drugs it keeps spreading. Dr. s here mis diagnosed her like they did me and my wife 5 years ago till we all ended up going to St louis and finding out it is too late. thanks for all your ideas. I ordered a touch pad on internet today to put on car and truck so I can't get locked out again. .
