I notice Deka makes an AGM group 65, which is what I'm looking for. But it doesn't have the same advertised power as the Odyssey equivalent.

I wonder who makes Odyssey?

I would not run optima batteries unless you are in a warm climate. I cant explain why but if Todd from T&C wants to chime in he can tell you. He told me not to when I still lived in Wisconsin, but I already had the local BPlus order them. Two weeks later I had to return them, they took them back and found one was already shot. The guy at Bplus asked what truck: when I told him he said Todd was correct-he had others with our trucks have the same issues. Not that optimas are a bad battery just not always good for our trucks in the north.

Who makes the batts that dodge sells with the truck? I understand that the new 2010 and newer trucks are of the AMG type I know that the AMG type seems to hold up very well in the marine enviroment. My batts are almost 6 years old and I'm startin to think about replacing them.....

What is the best brand of battery for the truck and where is the best place to buy in Portland, OR ??

Thanks,

Louis

Costco, according to Conusmer Reports is their highest rated automotive starting battery. The second highest rated is Wal-Mart. Both are rated a "Best Buy".

I'm just going to go with the EverStart Maxx from Walmart when it's time. They are built here in the U. S. by one of the manufacturers. There are Walmarts are all over the US and open 24hrs in tons of places. No brainer for me.

Sorry all, spending $450+ for DieHard Platinums is rediculous.

Louis,

I have to agree with scootergmc and BIGNASTY on Costco batteries. You can't beat the low cost and the best warranty. They're made by Johnson Control, who are the same manufactures that make Interstate and Diehard. Interstate batteries are considered by many as the best battery. A Kirtland (Costco) is the same battery.

Thanks to Bignasty, scootergmc and Grizzly! I don't know why I didn't think of going to Costco for batteries.

Went there today, measured their Group 65's (they fit my insulation blankets) and they even have nice handles for lifting along with 850 CCA's and 100 month warranty. $76. 99 out the door !!

Manufactured in 3/11 so I know they are new/fresh.

I bought Dekas, have been very pleased with them, and I supported my neighbor who works at the East Penn plant.

I've had three bad experiences with Interstates, I wouldn't run them if you paid me...

OK, if my OEM batteries ever quit (approx. 8 years now) I had decided to go with the Diehard Platinums as they are an AGM battery, which I have zero experience with but love the concept. Any of these other brands offer a grp 65 AGM battery for less $?

Smart choice Louis.

Did you ask about the extended warranty from Costco, as I mentioned in an earlier post?

No I didn't ask. I was convinced that new batteries were going to be $230 (std) to $400 (AGM) to $620 (Optima), so the $154 price and the good comments from the TDR members helped me make the decision.

Although Costco had Optima's (red top) in Group 65 for $119 ea.

The only problem I had at Costco was the tire center looked at me funny when I brought in two cores... . They refund straight cash and don't look it up in the computer to verify, like they do everything else at Costco. I had left my receipt at home, knowing they could just look it up. I had to convince them it was a dual battery diesel truck and pinky swear I bought two batteries.

Actually, in Consumer Reports the Group 65 results were as follows:

1. Die Hard Platinum $190

2. Die Hard Gold $110

3. Duralast Gold $100

4. Kirkland (Costco) $75

Follow by 5 other batteries...

The Kirkland was the group 65 "best buy. " The results were negligible between #2-4, and the Platinum pulls to the top with a better rating in the "life" category, which I'd expect with a +$115 price tag.

Hmm, it has changed since I looked some time ago. The Wal-Mart battery is still a "Recommended" but not a "Best Buy". The Wal-Mart and Costco batteries show to be the same price of $75. Since there are no Costco stores in my area, I buy the Wal-Mart battery only if it is made by Johnson Controls. As far as warranty, Wal-Mart stores are everywhere while the Costco stores are limited to the big cities.

Bill

Wal-Mart may be everywhere but they don't honor their warranty. I tried 2 times to return a defective battery to Wal-Mart, and I got no help. They told me there was nothing wrong with the battery, when I had been stranded 3 times. I took it to an independent auto elect shop and found 1 bad cell. I will never buy anything from Wal-Mart again. If they won't stand behind their warranty, they couldn't give me their product.
